Funny very short story about waiting for your car to be serviced. | |||
WAITING FOR THE CAR Copyright 2001 by Jennifer Green Sitting there waiting for the car to be serviced, at first it's nice. You look around at the new models, have some rotten coffee, check out the little parts and accessories shop. Do they ever sell anything in there? You read the paper, a magazine or two. Then you wait. And wait. You ask, "How much longer?" They tell you another hour. You sit and wait some more. You look around, make three unnecessary trips to the bathroom, and then in desperation, you try to strike up a conversation with a fellow customer. Her mother must have warned her a little too forcefully about stranger danger, because she just glares back at you like you're some nutcase. You wait some more. The walls start to close in on you. You start to feel like you're serving time in prison, and since they have your wheels up on the block, there is no possibility of escape. Panic starts to set in. Soon your heart is racing, your palms break out into a cold sweat, and you realize you're starting to hyperventilate. Just when you think you've got to make a run for it, before you loose your very grip on reality, the service guy comes out and casually says, "95 Honda Civic?" You could have had his child, you're so grateful. Instead, you get up, and say, ultra cool, "Yeah, that's me," and pick up the keys. Tweet
