Was she complaining? It didn't look like it. Keli couldn't sleep when she got in. She couldn't wait till the next morning when it would be time for her to go and start her shift. He'd be there again. Where would he offer to take her next? The opera? Anything was possible and she knew it. Once getting off the bus, she started to approach the shop, but as she did, a woman stepped in front of her. ‘Is there a problem?' Keli asked her. ‘Yeah, there is,' the woman replied with a look of Anger. ‘Stay away from my husband.' ‘Pardon?' ‘You heard. If you want to keep those pretty features of yours, you'll do as you are told.' ‘I don't even know your husband.' ‘That's funny. I thought he was your boss.' ‘You mean Darren?' ‘That's exactly who I mean.' Keli was confused. She didn't even know he was married. As far as she was concerned, he was single. He didn't even have a wedding ring on his finger. She was going to confront him. ‘Want a word with you,' she said to him once she had got inside the shop. ‘What's wrong?' ‘Your wife has threatened to rearrange my features, that is what's wrong.' ‘I haven't got a wife.' He then went on to explain that they'd been divorced for a couple of years. He also said that she wouldn't leave him alone - followed every move he made. Keli left it at that and agreed to go on a date the following week. There was a film that would be showing and he was keen to see it. But when the weekend came, she made her way to the Spar shop, a few minutes away from where she lived. She couldn't believe who she saw standing inside of the shop - Darren's ex-wife. She was confused. Then she saw Darren walking towards her. So they were married after all; why else would they be together, looking very cosy on a Sunday morning? Keli then started to look around the street and saw Darren's car parked on the other side of the road. She went over, took the keys to her flat out of her pocket, went up to the car and started to scratch the paintwork, then calmly walked over back to the Spar shop and went up to Darren and his wife. ‘Thought you said you were divorced?' she said to him while noticing he had put his wedding ring back on his finger.' ‘Keli, I can explain.' ‘Don't bother. Oh, by the way, I hope that neighbour of yours - the one who is a mechanic, isn't busy. I think some paintwork on your car will need respraying. And don't bother to come up with the idea of sacking me because I quit,' Keli left him standing there, speechless. She may have been out of a job but she had certainly got her revenge on him for lying to her, and that put a very big smile on her face! Follow me on my website - kenmakepeace.com Tweet
