PART 2 - CH 10

TEN

Blaze glanced round the Bridge. Muslik was sitting in piloting for Talis
who was away having a shower. Kane and Corthan were at the Navigator's
console, engrossed in some space maps on the monitor. Miller was dozing
by his instrument panels. Satisfied that everybody was pre-occupied, he
dematerialized.

He appeared in Talis's cabin and silently crept forwards to the open
bathroom door. Ever since Modas when he'd seen the naked women in the
pool and the half-naked women lounging on the couch beside Kol, he'd
found himself strongly attracted to looking at them, especially when
they had no clothes on.

Since travelling through space didn't exactly afford him many
opportunities of pursuing this latest hobby, he'd had to make do when
the chance arose. The only time this occurred was when Talis was having
a shower.

Wide-eyed, he watched her through the glass door as, facing him, she
soaped her long black hair, working it up to a lather then letting the
water rinse the soap away.

Still with her eyes shut, she held her face up to the spray to get rid
of the last of the soap. She shook her head and opened her eyes just as
Blaze vanished.

He re-appeared on the Bridge looking extremely suspicious but nobody was
paying him much attention, all still engrossed in what they were doing.
He grinned and disappeared again.

Talis was now facing away from him and for a couple of minutes he had an
uninterrupted view of her slim tanned body with the water streaming
over it. His eyes widened as the soap slipped form her hand and she
bent over to pick it up.

When she'd finished washing herself she stood for a while letting the
warm water cascade over her then turned the shower off. She reached
back to squeeze the excess water from her hair and Blaze saw the small
silver disc implanted at the top of her spine between her shoulders.

Never having seen one before it distracted him and he wasn't ready to
dematerialize when she turned. Talis saw him and screamed. Blaze
vanished.

Back on the Bridge he strolled over to the Navigator's console where
Kane and Corthan were still looking at some space maps on the monitor.
Since he'd been caught in the act by Talis he knew he was in trouble so
he decided he might as well find out what the disc was.

Corthan glanced up at him and smiled. “What's puzzling you?” he asked,
seeing the look on his face.

“Why do some women have a silver disc at the top of their backs?” he
asked.

Kane's head jerked up from the monitor. “A silver disc? Who did you see
with a silver disc on their back?”

Blaze started edging away from them. He didn't like the tone of Kane's
voice.

“Where did you see it!?” Kane barked at him, rising from his seat.

“On Talis,” Blaze replied, moving further away.

Kane glanced quickly at Muslik then raced out the Bridge. When he
reached Talis's cabin she was still drying herself, resignedly awaiting
his arrival.

She turned round, dropped her towel slightly and Kane strode over and
pushed her long black hair aside. The silver disc gleamed under the
cabin lights.

“Christ, you're an Android!!” he spat, letting her hair go. “You're a
