I went to capture the sunrise. Instead I looked at the essence of loneliness.

A Winter Morning's Breath of Life

~

Blistering wind

chills to the bone.

Nose runs and longs

for warmth.

Hands wonder

if this is what frostbite feels like.

Feet desire

thicker socks.

Legs want two more

layers of clothing.

The only thing warm

is my heart.

It remembers

the love we shared.

Instead of hiding behind

closed doors.
