A poem for all the lost | |||
Unknown Soldier The summer sky and ringing bells Girls dancing amongst crocus shells And poppies growing into wildly view Looking at the world anew But far away, and near at hand Bodies scattered over land And underground they lie and rot They are the ones the world forgot Even though for us they battled Behind the machine guns that rattled And killed men from foreign lands Who excepted Peter's gentle hands Those left behind lived in earthly hell In squalor and the rancid smell With panic and the dreadful fear Unable to cry out or shed a tear The summer sky and ringing bells Girls dancing amongst crocus shells And poppies growing wildly into view Looking at the world anew They are far away, and near at hand People scattered over land And underground they lie and rot They are the ones the world forgot Tweet
