McKayla has lost everything she has ever loved: her children. She is lost and confused. If she was anything in the world, she was a mother. | |||
McKayla Laurel pushed her foot on the gas pedal, accelerating her car over 90 miles per hour. She was driving faster and faster away from a town where she had spent her whole life. She wanted to forget everything and everyone, and just leave. She took each curve of the road a little faster than the last, not caring if she hurt herself or her car. It was all gone, everything she had ever loved and cherished. She had worked her whole life to get the things she had, and in a split second, they were all gone. She reached over to the passenger seat, and grabbed her fifth of Jack Daniels. She took a long swig, and proceeded to drive. She was about 30 miles outside of town, before she finally slowed down. She turned onto the interstate, and put her car on cruise. She leaned her head against the headrest of her seat, and took a long, deep breath. She was exhausted. A few weeks ago, her life seemed perfect. She had a happy family, with two wonderful kids. With her youngest only being 6 months old, she was reluctant to get back to work, but the advertising agency where she had made partner was very important to her. Growing up, life was hell for her. She was a poor child, never really having very much. Her mother was an alcoholic, who didnt care what happened to any of her 5 kids. McKayla, being the oldest raised her younger brothers and sisters. Her father would pop in occasionally, to get a rise from her mother. Every time after one of his visits, her mother would disappear for days at a time, never leaving money or food. Not even a note. After turning 16, Kayla got a part time job at the movie theater selling popcorn and candy. She would see other happy kids coming in and spending 20-30 dollars each time. While they were always worried about what movie they were going to see, McKayla thought about how much food was at home to feed her brothers and sisters. Her mother never apologized for her actions. She never said anything really, leaving Kayla to believe her mother hated her. McKayla would feed and clothe her siblings the best she could, but she wished they had just a little more. Kayla grew up long before she ever hit her teen years. Remembering how life had done her wrong, Kayla started driving faster. She didnt care anymore, about anything at all. She just wanted to disappear like her mother had done. Dissappear forever. She soon finished the fifth of Jack, and pulled over to the closest gas station. She filled up her tank, and went in and used the restroom. The clerk looked at her rather funny, until Kayla gave her a hard, cold look. She got a carton of Marlboro Reds, and was out the door. She got back into her car, and sped away. When she got back on the interstate, she turned the rradio up as loud as it could, and tried to push thoughts from her mind. She didnt want to think about anything now. Lighting a cigarette, she remembered how she was trying to quit. "Screw that now," She said aloud to herself. "Who the hell will know if I do or dont? Not anyone that matters anyway." She slowed down noticing a turn that she decided that she wanted to take. It look like it just dissapeared into the woods. Thats what she wanted. After she graduated from highschool, she had savd eenough moeny, and earned enough grants and scholarships to go to the nearby community college. She studied graphic arts, and soon became very good at advertising slogans, and artistic drawings for companies. She gave what little money she had every month to her family, helping all of her siblngs live. She never thought it was this hard just to survive. She got a job at a small advertising firm in her town. She worked her way from a secretary, to Assistant Supervisor of Advertising. She was in charge and making good money for her family. She moved them out of the little 2 room house into a 4 bedroom house on the outside of town. Click here to read the rest of this story (105 more lines)
