The elegant demon approaches. | |||
The Elegant Demon. The ravens now thunder as he passes Like a great screaming shroud they flash Addressing him through darkened glasses As he drives his hellion horses with a lash Silent as on mist, or by ancient wings aloft Through leaves crisp in the Autumn cold Now on foot there comes a demon soft Who's coming is not foretold But by the crimson trail that drains Below the soil rich with stains Beneath the rock where lay remains Of what his hunger couldn't hold. An elegant destroyer Icy death be his employer He may entertain you, as a cat Entertains a rodent before it feeds Before it falls upon with teeth Before the flesh that fully bleeds No, there lives no mortal needs In the breast of this unliving leech Your thoughts betray you Guard your speech For this beast makes the devil tremble And the people fast assemble In their church where they beseech God and Gods for saving grace To rescue all the human race From the elegant demon's reach. - Michael H.
