Indian Prince Siddhartha around 2300 years ago received enligtenment while doing yoga under Rose Apple tree. Rose Apples or Plum Rose smells like Rose flower and tastes sweet. Try tasting one.

Enlighten Me

“These fruits smell like rose, what are these?” Dan was 

looking at a small oval shaped fruits at ethnic food stall. 

“It is Rose Apple or Plum Rose, perhaps only fruit that smells 

like a rose,” Juggernaut took a bite, chewing with intensity to savor 

the sweet taste of Plum Rose. 

“I don't understand how a fruit can smell like a flower, I 

wish the fruit has more flesh and less empty cavity space,”  Dan opened 

the fruit to find large seed occupying the big cavity surrounded by 

thin faint pink flesh with the scent of a rose. 

“Surprisingly it is not the scent of Rose that made the Rose 

Apple famous but the person who took shelter under this tree for shade 

made the tree to become the Tree of Enlightenment.” 

“You mean the tree was known for giving knowledge?” 

“No, not the tree; Indian Prince Siddhartha was believed to be 

meditating under the shade of Rose Apple tree around 2500 years ago 

when he attained enlightenment that led  him to become a mystic 

travelling around preaching  simple living for happiness. His followers 

called him Buddha or source of knowledge and his philosophy turned into 

Buddhism as we know it now.” 

“Well, I shall consider sitting under a Rose Apple tree and 

beg for enlightenment.” 

“It won't work that way Dan, Siddhartha could have attained 

enlightenment either sitting or standing under Rose Apple or any tree 

or any structure for that matter, but he chose to sit under Rose Apple 

tree to meditate for cool shade from the branches with thick leaves and 

perhaps enjoyed Rose apples for its wonderful scent of Rose.” “I am not 

sure whether you will get enlightened just by sitting under Rose Apple 

tree but certainly you will have a cool shade with rose flavor fruits 

to enjoy.”
