Oat Meal Pancholy

Subba Rao

“What you have for breakfast?” asked Dan looking at Juggernaut

about to settle into his seat.

“As usual, oatmeal.”

“That is boring.”

“True, it was boring eating just oat meal with milk and sugar

on every morning, then I started eating two or three crunchy deep fried

strips of bacon for flavor and mouth feel in between oat meal servings,

and that was good.”

“Bacon? It is full of fat.”

“I know, fat was good then in seventies.”

“Then what happened?”

“I got fed up with bacon and in eighties I started eating two

or three sausages patties with oatmeal.”

“Sausages have more saturated fat than Bacon.”

“Well, I didn't care, I need protein in the morning with my oat

meal; after all I cannot have beans early in the morning for proteins.”

“True.”

“In nineties, I started having one or two hard boiled eggs with

oatmeal.”

“Well, what you eat now with your oatmeal?”

“I still eat hard- boiled eggs with oatmeal but after watching

Dr. Oz shows lately I came out with oatmeal preparation I call

it ‘Oatmeal Pancholy.'

“Pancholy sounds fascinating, how you come up with name

Pancholy?”

“Well, I made it up; Panch in Indian language means five when

connected to word whole became Pancholy ; I add five ingredients

namely; ground Flax seeds, crushed almonds and walnuts, raisins and few

spoons of coconut oil while boiling oats in water. These ingredients

provide good fats, proteins and minerals; coconut oil is made up of

short-chain saturated fat that releases energy quickly for early

morning start; Oatmeal Pancholy eaten with almond or soya milk or

buttermilk with pinch of salt tastes so good.”

“I get it.”

“So what you have for breakfast today?” inquired Juggernaut.

“I never had a breakfast.”
