When you sit down to write a GREAT story what is your wish? What do you long for the reader to come away with? This is my answer to those questions.

An Author's Wish

Walking into the bookstore

a man didn't know what he wanted to read.

Having apprehended many best sellers,

his mind felt a powerful, inspiring, need.

He desired a subtle fantasy on passions unexplored.

A spell-binding mystery which wouldn't mislead.

A delightful comedy like none discovered.

A romantic drama where the lovers succeed.

~

Not wanting to pass judgment on the cover,

he picked up a book which drew his eye.

Flipping over to the back,

he couldn't help but release a pent up sigh.

The novel was exactly what he was looking for.

This was the one he wouldn't pass up or deny.

With a distracted wave for the clerk,

he muttered an anticipated goodbye.

~

He opened the book to the folded pages

and beheld what hadn't been seen before.

A character letting life escape her.

A seductress completely ignored.

A matron in a wife and mother.

A lady with intelligent rapport.

A beauty inside and out.

A queen meant to be adored.

~

He read each line word for word.

Peered past the mask with tattered ends.

Glimpsed unbearable pain caused by death.

Spotted the self-torturous trend.

Understood lies used for protection.

Examined a heart which couldn't mend.

Appraised potential where others observed failure.

Spied once-in-a-lifetime love hidden in the face of a friend.

~

On concluding the book,

he couldn't believe what he just read.

All his daydreams had been found inside.

He desperately hungered for the woman in red.

Couldn't get the imagines he envisioned

out of his mystified head.

That night, in the darkness of sleep,

he dreamed of forever having her in his bed.
