Romance broken. How? | |||
They were deeply in love. This showed to all around them. Their light shimmered around their embrace, giving off a bubble of happiness. As the sun set around them, they looked deeply into each others eyes, unable to break free from their burnt crimson emotions. He smiled, thinking. Thinking that this was love, this was how happiness felt. Fire exploded inside him. Passion exuding from him. Ecstasy must have shown on his face, for she looked upon him, with a wistful glint in her eye. He laughed and stood up. “Come on,” he shouted with a roguish glint in his eye. She smiled. “No, you go, I'll watch.” With a second laugh he sprinted down the glistening sand, toward the emerald, sparkling sea. She saw him jump gracefully, and then plunge headfirst into the beautiful scene. She sat down. Waited. Waited for the splash. The laugh. She adored his laugh. A laugh so well used, it was perfection. Lying back, she gazed at the deepening purple sky. Thinking about him. Where was it? Where was his face? She looked up. The ocean was empty. The ripples were he had entered the water had died. Panic spread over her, like spiders hunting for pain. She waited. Still nothing. She was getting frantic. She ran to the edge of the water. Moonlight shone onto her face, reflected from the glistening sea. Nothing. Nothing was there, waiting to surprise her. It had been too long. Almost ten minutes had gone. “Where was he, please, please be ok” she thought, her mind trembling. Still, the empty space where he had disappeared into remained locked. It did not seem to be able to be broken. For surely he would be doing anything to get back to her, to the one who would miss him more than anyone else in the world would. Suddenly, she could hold on no longer. Screaming his name. Tears were running down her face. Rivers of anguish. She fell to her knees, hoping she'd break from the force. She would not live without him. Then, she saw movement at the top of the beach. “Help.” She cried with the pitch and volume of a banshee. “Why is this happening to me?” She thought, all the while pain was engulfing her, restricting her breath. She would not stop it. She would let pain take her to him. She stopped. People were gathering around her. Asking her inaudible questions. She listened. Suddenly, over all the other voices she heard. “What happening?” “My b-boyfriend.” She sobbed, emphasising the last word. “Gone.” Frantically a search party started, men were diving in, women comforting her, soothing her. On and on for hours. Until; “I got something.” She looked up. It was impossible. He could not still be alive. There, glinting in the black night, like a solitary star in a black abyss, was a single, silver bracelet. “That's his,” she stuttered. Tears welled up in her eyes. This was his last, small memory. She held it tight to her chest and cradled it as she would a child. Without this, she would forget the happy times, only remember this night. This terrible night. When all was lost, she'd found him in this bracelet. It was only small, it wasn't much. It was all there was of him left. She would never forget him, never, because of this bracelet, and that, she thought, would make all the difference. Tweet
