Incomplete. Stephanie Black fights against the "Orange Eyed Monsters". I'm no good at explaining what it's about: read to find out more.

PROLOGUE

She slid the door open, her eyes searching the darkening land. Soft as
a whisper, she closed the door again and stepped out from underneath
the patio, her loose hair spinning drastically around her as little
droplets of rain fell on her bare arms. The mud squished around her
toes, her feet sinking slightly with each step she took. She moved
forward with determination and even a soft version of passionate anger.
Her face didn't change as a water drop landed on her cheek, she only
moved faster. She paid no mind to the cold wind, or that she only had
jeans and a tee shirt on. Her eyes still glared at everything there
was to glare at, and she at last reached the edge of a cliff. She
stopped moving, her hard breathing becoming obvious now. She closed
her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them again they were
glowing. A bright orangey red glow. She shivered, but didn't move to
warm herself. She sat at the edge of the cliff and held her knees up
to her chest. Her tears came but were unnoticeable due to the rain.
Her gaze went to the bottom of the cliff, where the raging waters
slapped the edges of the rocks, angry and murderous. Her glowing eyes
held a certain sadness, but as another soft sob escaped her, she still
had made up her mind. “I will not be a monster,” she said, her voice
lost in the wind. Then she jumped.

PALEROMO RUCAHNDA

“The king requests a visit from you, Paleromo Rucahnda,” the guard said.
He moved his hand to the hilt of his sword, just in case.

Paleromo Rucahnda sighed. “You won't be needing that,” he said
resignedly. He tried to ignore his shaking hands and placed them in
his lap, hopefully without notice from the guard.

“I will be the judge of that,” The guard responded.

Paleromo nodded. “When will he be needing me?” He asked, and cleared
his throat as his voice trailed a little at the end.

“As soon as possible. You may head up now, if you wish.”

“Yes,” Paleromo said. He stood up slowly yet easily, and sighed once
again. Then he walked over to the stairs. With each step, not a stair
creaked, the velvet stood smooth and unharmed. With each step it took
him closer to the one place where he did not want to go. Paleromo
walked faster.

...

The door loomed over him. Breathless from the flight of stairs he had
just quickly climbed, Paleromo reached out and knocked on the door.

“Come in, Paleromo Rucahnda,” the king's voice called. The door opened
without a sign of anyone doing it.

Paleromo stepped in hesitantly. The king was sitting in a chair, a
chair that seemed quite plain in comparison to the rest of the
expensive room. His face was young for a king, his eyes a constant
black, which made everyone shiver when he looked at them. Even those
closest to him. King Garasonah reached up and fiddled absentmindedly
with the jade necklace around his neck. “So,” he began pleasantly, “I
heard of your little...hmm, what shall we call it...vacation.”

Paleromo Rucahnda swallowed. “Yes, King Garasonah.”

“What is the meaning of this to the kingdom? Do you not realize how
much you have put us in danger? How easily she could have told?!” The
king straightened up in his chair, his black eyes staring into
Paleromo's. “Luckily, I have had her killed, so the threat is no
more.”

Paleromo tried to stifle a gasp; failed. “I....You've had her killed,
Your Highness?”

“You knew the danger telling her would bring to us. You knew that what
you have done was against the rules. You knew exactly what you were
doing - maybe you should have stopped to think of the consequences
