Another attempt at poetry. This one deals with the blank page we all face when we sit down to write. It's prose, so don't be scared off :-D. | |||
Blank Pages By: Lori Blank pages brings uncontrollable panic. Not knowing which character will make their debut, Makes me break out into a cold sweat. Where is this leading? That question turns my stomach upside down. Not realizing who does what to whom, Makes chills run down my spine. Having one cliche after another, Sending my mind into a whirlwind. Where are the words? Nothing comes but revulsion. Looking at the blinding white instills fright, Your mind screams, “One sentence, just write one linguistic string!” When you try, The lacuna page ridicules you. “You're not a writer,” It screams. “Why even try?” The writer exclaims, “You can't lie to me. “You're nothing but a uncommunicative page!” Characters begin to take over, The close-lipped page begins to fill. Words pour out, Sentences form, Paragraphs are made, The story/poem takes shape. What was once a white, glaring, ugly page, Turns glamorous and makes you proud. The blank page isn't so scary now, It's full of words and emotions. These are the afflictions of the starting a story, Changing it into a narrative only you can tell. Once you've beaten the demons that haunt, That blank page. Copyright 2007 by Lori Tweet
