The World Today By: Lori The inter workings of my mind. _______________________________________________________________________ I sit at my computer listening to “I'm A Bitch, I'm A Lover” by Alanis Morrisette after having a conversation with a good friend of mine. It's 1:30 in the morning. So, if you think this is a dull topic, skip it now because it wasn't wrote for you anyway. I wrote it for the ones who care about the world and the events happening as I speak. The world today concerns me. Not only are we in a war that shouldn't have been fought. Who cares some country has more oil then we do? Is this so important we forget about the other things going on in our world? What about child abuse, spousal abuse, and, veterans without benefits? What about the homeless in this country, starving babies because their parents are drug/alcohol addicts? Or how about the growing population of teen pregnancies? Did you know Middle School children are getting pregnant now days? How do we call ourselves good parents when our children are getting pregnant at 11 and 12 years of age? NO, the all mighty dollar has to reign! Who cares if those dollars never reach our, as common citizens, pockets? Who cares Americans are dying right and left for those said dollars? Who cares Americans are being maimed and their mental health is destroyed before their ever eyes? Who cares at all? Who gives a damn anymore what happens to this country? I CARE! I have two children who are going to be adults in two years for one, and a year for the other. I've already failed them through their schooling. I've never made them do their homework or cared if they failed. I've failed them as being upstanding citizens with an education like I had. I've failed them in the respect to have something important to fall back on. How can I fail them by leaving a country torn in half by its own people? We have Cindy Sheehan giving up the fight because she can't endure it any longer. I have stood beside this woman in everything she believes in. I've cried with her, screamed with her, felt her pain in a dying society that doesn't care anymore. If she gives up the fight, who is going to lead the assault? I don't know and I'm afraid the answer will be no one. The world today scares and terrifies me. I don't know how to stop the things from happening. I'm only one woman. But, with my voice I'm going to try. © June 4, 2007 Tweet
