"Til Death is a short story about two lovers who promise to love each other until death. Well, the rest you'll have to read for yourself, because it's quite tragic. | |||
Beep Beep Beep. Beep Beep Beep. The alarm clock that sat upon Jonathan's bed stand awoke him from his deepened slumber. He looked up with disgust, and grumbled "Fuck, It's Monday." He went into his bathroom and took his usual morning shower. Jonathan's hair was down past his shoulders, so in the mornings he had to blow it dry and put it into a ponytail. He kept a beard for the most part, and hadn't shaved his mustache since he was a teenager. After he finished his normal morning routine and got dressed, he went out the front door of his apartment, locked the door, and was on his way to the Grand Junction Communitiy College that he attended in the mornings. Jonathan was a very timid person, with many insecurities. He knew a few people where he lived in Grand Junction, but he didn't associate himself too much with other people. He was usually off in his own little world, either writing odd poetry or watching his massive collection of music videos in his apartment. He was a man of few words, and it was rare if ever to hear him talk. When he did speak it was in a low scared tone, and he would stutter constantly. He never smiled, and always seemed like he was depressed. He had been in Colorado for 6 years, and he still acted as if he were new there. He was born and raised in Georgia, and his accent was pretty much obvious. His father was an alcoholic and used to beat his mother, and Jonathan was a sad witness to violence from an early age. His parents finally divorced, and he kept getting switched from his mother to his father, and then finally when he was thirteen, his grandmother decided to give him a stable home. He lived with his grandmother until he finished high school, and when he was 19, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. He arrives at school about five minutes early, and he sits down at his desk. He looks up at the front of the row, and sees this beautiful brown haired blue eyed girl sit down at the desk. He knows she's been in the same class as him for the last month or so, but he is too scared to talk to her, because he's too shy. He sat and watched from his desk, and admired her beauty with such amazement. He thought to himself "I wonder what this girl is about." Suddenly it seemed as if time flew right by, and class was over. He goes outside to the picnic tables where he normally eats, and he opens his lunch box. He is eating the same thing he always eats; a peanut butter and honey tortilla wrap. As he sits and enjoys his lunch, suddenly the same girl he was admiring comes and sits down at his table. He is surprised, and fumbles for something to say to her. In a slow pitiful tone he says "Hi, I'm Jonathan". She gives him a smile and replies "So you can talk." Slowly he replies, "What makes you think I can't?". Once again smiling as usual, she says, "I don't think I've ever heard you say a word since I came here a month ago." A little less scared he says, "I'm just shy, that's all? But can you tell me your name?" "My name is Jennifer", she replies," and the reason I came over here, is because every time I see you, you're always alone. "Most of the time I prefer to be alone, but I don't mind company every now and then." he replied in a quicker tone. Jonathan finished the last bite of his tortilla wrap, and wiped his face. "So what is that you eat everyday at lunch?" she asks. "It's my favorite food in the entire world; Peanut Butter and Honey Tortilla Wrap." he replies with a half way smile. When she saw him smile, she remarked " Oh my god! You actually smiled for once!" She asked him why he didn't smile more often, and said that he had no real reason to smile. It was drawing near time for class to go back into session, and Jonathan had to be at work in 30 minutes, so Jennifer wrote her phone number on a napkin for Jonathan, and then gathered up her books and went on her way. Jonathan was never this happy in his life, and he went to work feeling very good. That night he got home, he went to relax in his recliner. He had the phone in his hands, but he was scared to dial Jennifer's number, because he didn't know what to say when she would answer. Finally, he dialed her number, and it rang for about three times before she answered. When she answered he said "Jennifer this is Jonathan. Do you remember me?" "Of course I remember you. What makes you think I'd forget you?" "I don't know", he said plainly, " I just guess I'm scared that no one cares about me." He wanted to tell her how he truly felt, but something inside of him was preventing him from saying what he really wanted to say. " I really have something I have to tell you, but I can't seem to say it." Jonathan said in a sad tone. " Well go on ahead and say it," Jennifer replies, " because I really want to know what you're feeling." "Well," he replies, "Ever since I first saw you I knew I liked you, but I couldn't just go up to you and tell you exactly how I felt." For twenty seconds there was complete silence on the phone, and then Jennifer said, "Well I'm glad you told me, because If you want to know the truth, I really like you too, and I think you're cute." "Really?", Jonathan replied. "Yes", she said back Click here to read the rest of this story (136 more lines)
