my dad called to tell me he liked a story I'd written - the story's name is SUCKERS | |||
(copyright 2000 K. Stevens Jr.) call waiting time shares who cares about the way she walks or what she wears or what I think of on days like this when the phone rings loud beeping true and I'm on the other line already talking to someone talking to my father about days to come things gone items found fixed broken in need of repair who gives a flying fuck about call waiting hairspray lipgloss earrings high heels stockings and nail polish does she think that it matters all I care about is the moment when the phone first rings and I get to hear who it is that cares good or bad today it was my Dad and the call waiting didn't wait but jolted me out of context out of conversation leaving me without memory of anything Dad said except take care and I read the story you wrote today the one about sucker fishing and it reminded me of when I was a kid Tweet
