Quest

Spring is the beginning of bright defiances,

of flowers beneath the newly-minted leaves,

of voyages not yet over.

.

The helmsman's oars bring me off

a dappled-island shore

where soft-lipped unicorns still adore

mushrooms ringed with morning's polished

stones in a dell of magic silences

where negre shadows rise

to castle-chiseled peaks of gold

leaned against the rainbow-tinted sky.

.

But I am destined for another shore,

no quiet abode,

where sirens lure with fateful song

from gargoyled rocks

that jut from swirling foam

and end my search

with knuckles hard and cold.
