Samantha Jones At The Earth's Core By Waldo Pepper ronk@axion.net Comments are the life blood of any amateur writer, the currency in which they are paid. It takes only a few minutes to send off a line or two, which is little to ask for in exchange for creating a story. So be sure to take these few minutes, it can only result in more and better stories in the future. Page 1 As man enters the twenty first century and begins to probe deeper and deeper into outer space we find that much is still unknown about his own planet. Many questions still remain unanswered regarding the exact depth of our oceans and what life form exist there. What lay directly b elow our feet has puzzled man for centuries and until most recently he has only been able to speculate and scratch the surface with his mining and oil exploration. Volcanoes, earthquakes, and tidal waves have also plagued man for Eons and have formulated the bases for many religious beliefs. Many a witch doctor has sacrificed a fair maiden over the fickle behavior of some volcano or earthquake. But what will man find when he begins to probe the Earth's Core??? The university of Boston was the first to study such phenomenon The program was headed by professor Earnest Darkmore who had won countless awards in the study of physics, chemistry, and his own personal love geology and the Earth's crust. He had passed a great deal of his knowledge to his daughter Caroline an accomplished geologist herself and now together they began a new program that would enable them to study these occurrences more closely. "It will be nice to see Caroline once more," said Samantha Jones as she and Rebecca West left a small an tique store in the heart of the city of Boston and made their way to a lunch date. "I hope she likes the unusual piece of stone that we have found for her." "I am sure that she will," replied Rebecca. It will make an intriguing attraction for her desk at the university. A little reward from a couple of old friends for landing such an awesome job. Imagine heading a department at Boston University." Page 2 "Yes, but you have to admit Charlotte is a smart girl," said Samantha. "Universities all over the country have made offers for her to teach." The Blue Parrot was crowded with lunch patrons when the two young women entered. Caroline Darkmore sat at a small table in the far corner sipping a glass of wine and making notes on a writing pad. Caroline was a tall attractive smartly dressed young women of twenty three with long natural blond hair and blue eyes. She was single recently ending an on again off again relationship with a chemistry professor in the Boston area. They finally split with him takin g another position further north and she concentrating all her efforts on this new project at the university. "Samantha Jones, Rebecca West, you two look better then ever," she said getting to her feet and giving each women a hug. "It is so good to seed you once more. What bring you to Boston?" "We were passing through on our way to New York and we thought that we would stop and pay our respects to your father," replied Samantha taking a seat. "We he told us you had just been appointed to work with him on a new project at the university we just had to say hello and have lunch with you. We were even able to pick you up something for your desk that you may find interesting." "Yes, the appointment came as a shock to me," she said. "My dad and I will be studying how volcanoes are formed and in what way an earthquake originates. To an old rock hound like me the job is a dream come true." "That is way Sam and I thought this stone would be the perfect gift for you," said Rebecca. "Do you know what it is ?" Click here to read the rest of this story (2174 more lines)
