Jenna hurries to get to a meeting, but ends up in a ditch because of a deer. This story is a slightly different style I'm trying - all comments and edits are welcome.

Jenna sped down the country road. She glanced at her watch and frowned.
“The meeting starts in forty-five minutes and it's over an hour's drive
away.” Pressing harder on the accelerator she nervously tapped her
fingers on the steering wheel. Checking the time again, Jenna sighed,
“God give me wings!”

As her eyes returned to the dusty blacktop, a large deer appeared in the
lane ahead. Giving the steering wheel a quick tug, the car swerved
left. As the tires slid in the gravel on the far side of the road,
Jenna quickly twisted the wheel sending the car off of the right side
of the road.

The world went seemed to go into slow motion as the car rolled onto its
side forcing her leg into the middle console, tipped the top, bounced
onto the other side, then returned to an upright position. Jenna sat
for a moment then laughed. “Gee God, I wanted wings, but I didn't want
to fly into the ditch.”

“How'm I going to explain this?” Jenna asked herself as she reached
across the seat for her purse. A pulsing pain shot through her right
leg. Grabbing the strap she pulled it to her then unzipped the pocket
compartment. Finding her cell phone she called work.

The familiar recording repeated, “You have reached Long Branch Research,
Incorporated. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30
p.m. If this is an emergency please stay on the line for a security
person. If you know the extension of the person you are trying to
reach, please dial it now.”

Jenna quickly pressed 116. “Larson,” answered a scratchy tenor voice.

“This is Jenna...” BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The light on the phone blinked
twice then the battery died.

“NOOOOOO!” screamed Jenna.

Pushing against the door, it opened and she slowly scooted to the edge
of the seat. With her left leg on the ground, Jenna carefully lifted
her right leg out of the car then slowly lowered herself to the ground.

Hearing the shuffle of gravel, Jenna looked up toward the road. The
stately buck deer stood on the road above her. “See what you did,” she
snarled at the creature. “Any suggestions? To bad you aren't Lassie.”

The deer turned his head and Jenna turned to see what had caught his
eyes. A beautiful sunset with splashes of orange and red filled the
sky. The long ago words of her grandfather echoed in her ears, “Red at
night, sailor's delight, red in the morning, sailors take warning.”

She smiled, “Shouldn't it have been a farmer's delight, grandpa? We were
far from an ocean or sea... At least it shouldn't rain. I wonder how
long it will be before they start looking for me. Heck, they'll never
find me here, they'll look on the highway.”

Tears formed in Jenna's eyes as she looked at a cornfield below the
sunset. “Corn has to be knee high by the fourth of July to produce a
good crop. Looks like a good crop this year grandpa,” she said as she
carefully shifted her leg into a more comfortable position, “I've
always wondered, the corn must be knee high to whom? You were so tall
and I was so small. Would it still be a good crop if it came to my
knee instead of yours?”

Gazing at the road, Jenna saw the deer silently keeping watch. “I'm glad
you're here. Stay close will you? If anyone passes by, stop them and
help them find me.” The evening breeze slowly blew across the land and
Jenna drifted asleep.

“HONK!” Jenna heard tires squeal then continued down the blacktop.
Opening her eyes, moonlight filled the earth. “Mr. Deer?”

The buck appeared on the shoulder of the road and gazed down at her.
“Good try. It looks like I'm going to have to get up there to be
found.” Pulling herself across the ground, Jenna slowly moved up the
