Shadows (standard:poetry, 75 words)

Are we really who we think we are? Or perhaps we are only shadows on our true selves.

Shadows

Casting oblong shapes

Against monotonous floors,

Shade perceptions of ourselves,

But where is self?

The warmth of light

Begs brain-washed eyes

To pry from sterile television sets.

We no longer dwell in caves

But in trailer parks and shopping malls

Glued to MTV and the NFL

Blind to moral responsibility.

Our cheaks turned so far

That to turn back would snap our spineless necks

Unable to see the true form that casts our

Shadows.
