Samantha Jones And Dr. Orloff's Monster From Hell By Waldo Pepper Send all comments to ronk@axion.net Rebecca Clark peered out the side window of the rental car at the German landscape that she and her friend and associate Samantha Jones had acquired in Calone that morning and wondered when he would see her sister. The two young women were on vacation in France and Germany and had extended the trip for a few days so that she could pay a visit. Susan was working as a secretary for a Doctor Hector Orloff near the small village of Eagle Nest and they were now on their way there. "Isn't the German countryside gorgeous this time of year Becky," said Samantha as she drove the small rental car down a country road. "How long has it been since you have seen your sister?" "Not since last Thanksgiving," she replied. "My kid brot her had the whole family together in his home in Mane. Susan was going to travel through Europe and then possibly find work there. She wrote to me that she was hired as a housekeeper and secretary to a doctor Hector Orloff." "Well being a secretary and housekeeper seems like a plumb occupation," said Samantha. "And in such a beautiful country." They entered the small village of Eagle's Nest around dusk. It was a sleepy little German town nestled in the Black Forest and had remained the same for the past one hundred years. The two largest buildings were the church and the hotel tavern or inn as it was known. "I suppose we should have some dinner and see were this Dr. Orloff have his office located Becky," said Samantha parking the car. "Perhaps we may be able to also find a place to spend the night." "Yes, a nice cold glass of beer would be nice," said Rebecca. "these country taverns are always so friendly." "I am not at liberty to say Miss," he replied. "But perhaps the magistrate and the constable could help you. They are seated in the far corner." The two young women finished their dinner and then Samantha ordered a pitcher of beer and had it taken over to the two men. A few minutes later they were informed that they were to join the dual. "Thank you for the beer Miss Jones," said the constable. "I hoped that your trip has been a pleasant experience." "Yes it has," she replied. "But my friend Becky and I are trying to locate a Dr. Hector Orloff. The innkeeper suggested that you could be of assistance." "Ah yes Dr. Orloff," said the magistrate. "A strange fellow really, always poking around in his laboratory." "And what business do you have with him," said the constable? "My sister is working for him as a housekeeper and secretary sir," said Rebecca. "I thought that wile we were in this part of Germany we could pay her a visit." "Ah yes, quite admirable," said the constable. "But unfortunately he has just moved his entire staff to Blackmore Castle. It is some twenty miles north of here on a very narrow and treacherous road. I would advise you of not making the trip at night. "We are planning to spend the night here at the inn," said Samantha. "What else can you tell us about this Dr. Orloff?" "Only that he ran a medical clinic and an asylum for the insane just outside the village," said the constable. "He is a brilliant man, graduated with honors at Berlin University and Cologne Medical School. I would say that he is doing some sort of research up at the castle."
