This is my life story from early childhood in Boston, with a military and Law Enforcement career to the present day. | |||
LOOK AT ME NOW by: Ken F. Horne Sr. I was astonished how the street appeared to have shrunk as we turned off of Crescent Avenue..It's a "One Way" street, I screamed to Billy who was busy trying to avoid the parked cars on both sides of the now narrow Newport Street. We were moving in the right direction and I believe we were going too fast to take it all in as we were there before you knew it. We had stopped in front of the house where we played as children. My mind wondered recalling all the memories I had on this my home turf. I glanced at our old house, then at Cartons and next to Burkes. Behind me was Grandma Smiths, she lived on the first floor, McDonough's lived on the second and Carney lived on the third floor. Wallace's old house was next to my grand mothers. Oh what sweet memories this was. It had been twenty-five years since I returned home to attend my mother's funeral. I still miss her. On the twenty-fifth day of May, 1940, I entered this world at the Boston City Hospital, in Boston, Massachusetts. I will be a little over one and a half years old when the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. I grew up amongst a row of triple Decker house's in the Dorchester section of Boston. I attended Public Schools at the Cora L. Ethtridge elementary school and the William E. Russell School. (1) Carson beach was where we would spend most of the summer. At low-tide my brothers and I would bring our five gallon buckets out in to the muddy waters and stomp our feet and walla..a Clam would shoot up it's fluid and we have struck pay dirt. I remember mom cooking them and how excited everyone was when we brought home the clams. It was like a great accomplishment . After graduation from the Russell, I Attended Boston Trade High School where I decided after two years of Auto Mechanics that I was wasting my time there.
