The deadly truth has hit me today, my friends who I love are leaving for war. | |||
We're only babies, only 18 Not yet ready for the real world But even as I sit in the comfort of my room My boys, my dearest friends, are training And yet that never really bothered me I never really expected them to leave We all figured we wouldn't go into war It was too vague a concept But to hell with our naivity Our innocence soon destroyed Today I learned the bad news Which I guess in a way is good My very first kiss, one I shall always remember, Volunteered to fight Six months left until he leaves for Iraq That's not the way it's supposed to be I can't deny that I admire the courage he displays But at the same time, I can't help but think how stupid he is Listen to all the tales of war They are not cheery or enthralling They are death, blood, and utter chaos And he has thrown himself willingly into the fire These are my friends who have put themselves on the line Our country, our freedom, they're willing to die to defend And god how I respect them with everything I am But I love them and I know some will not come back Some will be in body bags, if they even make that While others just will be gone from existance Buried in some anyonomous grave I cannot stand the thought of my boys Fading away but I know there is a good chance it will happen And when I say goodbye it may be for the last time Our nation has called, and my loves have responded I wish them the best with all of my soul And may they come back to me whole Tweet
