More of Zorain and Damien

The room that met us was silent. Unnaturally and uncomfortably silent as
all eyes turned to us. I sucked in my breath, this place reaked of them
and their kind. "There the desk is at the back." In the far corner of
the room was sitting a clerk behind a desk. It was him we would have to
speak to in order to complete the task that had brought us here.

"I don't want to walk passed those things." My voice was drowned out by
the humm of conversation which had risen to quench the unbearable
silence.

"Simply breath threw your mouth and know that the quicker we are done
here the quicker we will never again have to come back." He knew we
would be back, we always were.

To get to the desk we were forced to wade threw the sea of these
creatures, these mistakes. All of them looked at us as we passed but
none of them saw what we knew to be true. "I wonder what our creators
thought when they made these things." I did not care who herd, my
dislike of them was not a private matter.

"They wondered where they had gone wrong and why they didn't turn out
like us." Damion was walking faster then he normally would have, he too
was uncomfortable. I looked about me indisugst every where I looked all
I could see were the mishapen and disgusting mistakes. Our creators had
tried to make new versions of Damion and I when we had stopped
co-operating with them, the results were these things. How they must
have despised the monsters that were the fruits of their labor when
they had tried so hard to grasp at the sparks of life and perfection
that were Damien and I. Instead of the gleaming portraits, the
representations of the perfection they beleived was theirs they got
these putrid and disgusting extensions of their own fowel natures. A
smirk danced across my lips how they must have felt when they
understood that Damion and I were not the results of their work but of
fluke chance that never again would they control us or be able to
create replacements. They had lost their chance to have anything to do
with us.

"Even' Lady." No matter who they were, where we were, or what was
happening I was the one who was addressed not Damion. We had never
understood why.

"Evening."

"What can I do for the Lady this fine even'?" He was eager to impress,
eager to gain my favor, eager not to die at my hands should I grow
bored or angry. He was young and did not know that I hated to touch
these things, hated to dirty my hands on them, hated to waste my time
killing them when they would kill themselves in good time.

"I need to send a message."

"Who would this message be to?" He had never been in the presence of any
as high up as the two of us, he was amazed; I was not.

"The one mother." My creator.

"Of course Lady." He would get to meet both Damion and I in the same
night that he would have to deliver a letter to the creator of all of
them. He handed me a peice of paper and a pen.

I looked at Damion. "What do we want this to say?" He smiled
humourlessly.

"That we are still alive and kicking." I glared at him, that wasn't
funny. I jotted it down anyway, I was in a hurry to leave this place. I
signed my name in my old style gothic letters and handed the note to
him. He scratched down his signature. I looked at what he had put, he
had signed his name that way since we had known one anouther and still
I could not read what it said. I handed the note and pen back to the
clerk.

"Make sure she gets this as soon as possible." I turned away and Damion
started toward the door.

"Um, um Lady, you, you forgot to pay." The room again grew quiet. They
