culture we had destroyed thousands of years earlier, and no one could
any longer read what was written here, even if they could understand
that it was writing and not simply scratches on the side of a pot.

"Well you can rack your brain over it later, I think we need to go talk
to someone."

He like what he was doing and was in no mood to stop. "Do we have too?"
He sounded like a small child asking his parents to buy it something.

"Yes now come along this pot has been around for a few thousand years it
will still be here in an hour or two." He grumbled under his breath but
followed me out the back fire excape entrance.

The night air felt good. The sun had long since set. Habit he says I
never used to sleep an instant past sun set. The night was warm as we
enjoyed the last ________ (*memo to me find a word to fill this space,
it was on the tip of your brain when you first wrote this but you
couldn't remember) of summer. A slight breeze though spoke of the
promise of a chilly autom. The night was clear but the stars were
drowned out by the lights of the city. I hated this place so very much.

The alleyway we had exited the building out into was very narrow and the
two of us had to walk single file to get past the dumpsters that
smelled of mold and decay. We left the confines of the alley and turned
left onto a side walk. Very few people were out, all the shops were
closed for the night and the only ones out were junkies and the
homeless.

We walked down the street in silence my hands thrust deep into my
pockets to keep them warm. Even the warmth of the night couldn't
vanquish the chill left by the dream from them. We were approaching one
of my least favourite places in all the world. I wish we could have
done this earlier and be done with it now but we were here now and the
building loomed before us.

"Do we really have to do this?" He asked, once we had stopped outside of
the heavey wodden doors.

"Yes."

"Why?" We were stalling. Neither of us wanted to go in here.

"Because."

"That isn't an answer, that is you side stepping an answer because you
don't know."

"I know."

"Then why are we here?" He knew too but this was all part of the game.

Now it was my turn to play my part. "The same reason we always come"

"Which is?" I opened the door and proceeded in with out answering his
question. He knew he was simply afraid. I smiled as I was afraid as
well.
