The tale of how the Martian Revolution would begin, and the bloddiest battle of history would start. | |||
Martian Revolution Spencer D. Taylor Tom stared out into space blankly, and wondered if his time was running as short as he thought it was. The man knew that nothing could stop him from dying. The doctors had told him that he only had one week left to live, and he knew that he must complete the mission he was given. The wars had struck, and thousands had died. “I shouldn't have let them go out on their own. I can't trust them. Can I?” he wondered. Nothing worried him more then letting his two best friends go on a suicide mission. The colony was quiet at this time of night, but Mars always seemed to be that way. Ever since the colony was finished, he lived in fear. The fear that maybe some day the Earth's military would attack like they said. The fear that more would die without a reason. He hated that fear and would be very happy once his life was done, but for some reason he wanted to continue living in this fear. Was it because he was so used to it? Was it because the fear was what drove him onward to win so many battles? He hoped that he would never find out. The Martian Colonies were always in combat for some reason. Many of the colony leaders just wanted to make their colony bigger, and more powerful. Tom's colony, on the other hand, flat out disliked most of the other colonies. They had just cause for it, too. At that moment his radio cracked, and he herd a voice. “Tom you there still?” said the voice. Tom picked up the radio, and flipped the talk switch. “Yes Zack I'm still here. Where's Ryan?” he asked his comrade. “Ryan's right here with me. No need to worry ‘bout him. I'm keeping an eye on him at all times,” replied Zack. “Why do you ask?” Tom just shook his head. “Just keeping watch over my friends that's all,” he continued, “is that so bad?” Tom looked into the doorway of his compound to see Quinten Torrence standing there, but something looked like it was worrying him. “Hey Quinten, you okay?” he asked as he put down the radio. Quinten just nodded his head. Quinten had been Tom's friend for several years now, and having him die was something that would devastate him. Quinten had also been married for the past two years, and was expecting a child soon. His long brown hair blew in the cold wind, but the cold never seemed to really bother him. Tom just looked at him. Not knowing what to say he turned his attention back to Zack, and Ryan. The conversation between the three went on for a while longer. “We're about 20 miles west of the compound,” said Ryan through the static of the radio, “we should be home in about 10-15 minutes. At our current speed of course.” The three men gave their farewells, and the radios went silent. “The quiet is something we should be used to by now, huh Tom?” asked Quinten as he turned around, and stepped back inside the house. Tom just chuckled a little, and then continued to drink his coffee. *************************** A little while had passed by, but no sign of Zack, or Ryan. Tom was getting a little worried about his comrades, but he noticed that Quinten wasn't the least bit worried. “Do you even care if they come back sir?” asked Tom looking into the kitchen. No answer. Quinten was the colony's leader. The Martian Colony ‘Gemini' was under his rule. What ever he said went, but there were still a few who disliked him. That's why he had Tom there with him.
