A HEROE'S HEART OF GOLD She hasn't performed a single life-saving surgery or delivered cancer killing chemotherapy, but Jenn Borjeson is an important part of life for hundreds of critically ill children whom she has never even met. Jenn is not a doctor or nurse. She's a full-time student and busy young mother of two who is known to hundreds of people across this country as "the gal with the heart of gold." Jenn is special to the sick children that she "adopts" and encourages. She's a cheerful, loving young woman who has generously volunteered thousands of hours to two organizations devoted to helping children who battle serious illness. As Director of Family Services for The Hugs and Hope Club for Sick Children, Jenn is in close contact with and helps to serve and encourage nearly one hundred families around the country. She's responsible for putting happy smiles on the faces of suffering "club kids" by sending "happy mail" to cheer them up and help them forget, for just a little while, that they are fighting for their lives. With her two young children, Jenn makes hand-crafted cards and gifts and is always shopping for little goodies that she thinks her "patients" will enjoy. Seven-year-old Connor loves watching Scooby Doo with his dad and playing computer games. He is not so fond of all the checkups and tests he must endure because he has a rare form of advanced cancer. The second grader tries to talk his way out of each medical procedure that his doctors require of him, but in the end he always must give in and submit to the treatments. Connor has had radiation therapy, chemo therapy, and seven surgeries in his battle to beat cancer. His experience has been made a little easier because of the "happy mail" he receives from Jenn and her children Cassidy and Trevor. Jenn is committed to delivering joy to others, even though her own life is jam-packed and hectic. But she says she reaps the spiritual rewards that can only be gained by giving of yourself. As head of Hugs and Hope's Special Projects Department, Jenn organizes the efforts of over 500 volunteer "hug-givers and hope-restorers" who work together on several programs that benefit families served by the organization. She single-handedly orchestrates the Secret Pal Encouragement Program and the Elf Project in which hundreds of children are paired up with volunteer sponsors who provide fun surprises, giving sick children something to look forward to and bringing love and laughter into their lives . Jenn's selfless concern for others shows in all she does and she's an inspiration to those who know her. All who enter her life are touched by her caring heart, hard work, compassion, and devotion to helping those less fortunate than herself. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Hugs and Hope Club for Sick Children, of which Jenn is Director of Family Services, invites you to experience for yourself the joy of helping Children.
