The third in a series of rants. | |||
First, I want to thank the anonymous person who clued me into the forum. I really like to see that my writing has sparked some passion in a few people. If you haven't seen it, check out the thread called, "Why Thunder God is an Idiot." You guys raise a lot of good points although some of them are little misguided in my opinion. That's okay. At least you guys are thinking about things differently. There does seem to be a reoccuring theme in the forum discussion. Nobody seems to like being made fun of or my superior attitude. I don't understand why that is(sarcasm). I don't like being made fun of either. Although, if you weren't inspired to thought by my opinions, at the very least you were offended by me. Either you shake it off and ignore or you let it get to you. I'm just some kid with an old computer and internet access. Don't take the insults too seriously. If I were someone you knew or cared about and I were making fun of you then you might have something to be upset about. If I've hurt anyone's feelings, I'm sorry. That's not what I'm trying to do here. I just want you to think about the role you play in society. Some people will pay attention to just logic. Others need to be called stupid so that they will try to prove to everyone that they're not stupid. That's flawed logic, but I think that someone would see it like that and maybe would follow the same line of flawed thinking. That's my little apology to the tens of people I've hurt. I want to talk briefly about a few things then I'll leave you all alone. First, I keep hearing about the overburdened middle class and how the middle class pays for everything and doesn't get any breaks from the government. I want you to think about this. When taxes are raised even a small amout, say 2%, it hurts the lower class more than it hurts the middle class. I'll give an example with made up numbers. Take two families both with a mother, a father, and a child. One family makes only $20,000 per year and pays 15% in taxes. That's $3,000 a year from that $20,000. After taxes they have $17,000 to live on. The other family makes $80,000 per year and pays 20% in taxes, because the more money you make the more you pay. This second family pays $16,000 in taxes, leaving them $64,000 to live on. Family two is in the middle class and Family 1 is lower class. Now let's say that Congress passes a bill that raises taxes for everyone by 2%. Family 1 pays 17% and Family 2 pays 22% after the new bill is passed. Family one only has to pay another $400 in taxes under the new tax law. Family two has to pay another $1600 in taxes. From these numbers most people would say that this is unfair that the middle has to pay so much more. My argument is this. They pay more because they can better afford it. Family one is living on a salary that is so small that they can hardly afford to put food on the table. Family two after the new taxes still has nearly 4 times as much money as the poor family. I want to ask those of you from the middle class reading this, would you trade with Family one? I don't think any of you would. That is why the lower class gets more help from the government. They need help just to get by. Most people in the middle class want help because they want the extra money. The above is as close as it gets to evidence for me. So please take it and be happy. I write these things off the top of my head without any planning, so there is usually nothing but my thoughts on the page. But, since everyone seems to think that my opinions need to be based on solid evidence, I'll try to do that. That's not to say that I've formed these opinions without any compelling evidence, it's more that I forget that you haven't seen the same evidence I have. Altough, in some cases, these are really just my observations. Also, my apologies to the Greenpeace people. They work towards a very important goal although, I think that some of what they do is a litte misguided. They take very radical stances, like someone we all know, and estrange themselves. The problem there is that they are a huge group that gets a lot of media coverage, most of it negative. It's hard to be taken seriously by most Americans when your opinions are so far outside the norm. They would have a lot more support if they were to tone it down a little. When I say that Greenpeace is misguided, I mean that they should be worried about the causes that go into the problem they are trying to solve. If you don't know Greenpeace is an enviromental group. They are trying to preserve natural resources and the beauty of the wild by fighting corporations and the government, to some extent. My problem is that they are still trying to work within the existing system, which Click here to read the rest of this story (47 more lines)
