A very short story about a not so important rescue! | |||
Tea and Cake By Lily Haythornthwaite In a beautiful castle on the edge of a vast ocean, panic broke out. Princess Ellen has been kidnaped and the main suspect is a mysterious dragon that lives across the land. The king sent his best knights to rescue her, but no one ever returned. The last two knights in the kingdom were sent for and the king briefed them on the mission. “There is a very obvious reason for me calling you here today, ” said the king gravely. “Yes, sire we are aware of the situation,” said Henry. “Don’t you mean situations? Not only has Ellen been kidnaped, but none of the search party members have returned,” said the king. “Yes, sire,” said Edward. “Anyway, you must bring her back at any cost,” said the king quickly and with a quick gesture, he dismissed them. They prepared to leave the next day and at noon of the next day, they sped off into the forest. The forest was green and bright. The paths were marked with hooves and other very strange footprints. Luck must have been with them because no attacked and they reached the cave the next day around noon. The smell of something burning and rotting emitted from the entrance. “There is no time like the present,” said Henry as wielded his sword and raced into the cave with Edward following him in. The cave was long and winding. It must have taken them 30 minutes before they saw dim light. It gradually got light and finally, they reached the end. What greeted them at them was quite a shock. There, sat a blue and purple dragon sitting at an elegant table serving tea to a well-dressed young lady. “Would you like some cake, Ellen?” asked the dragon holding up a plate of dainty cakes. “Oh, yes, please!” answered Ellen. “Your Highness?” asked Edward. “Oh, wonderful, more visitors!” said the dragon with a delighted grin. “Yes, do!” said Ellen bringing up more chairs. Edward and Henry started to edge away. “Oh, don’t leave! Please sit down”, said the dragon as he pushed them back to the table. “ We have all these cakes,” The dragon sniffed a bit and then started wheezing. The dragon then sneezed and toasted the two knights with his fiery sneeze. “Damn this cold!” said the dragon happily. “I wish we could send a message to my dad,” said Ellen. “Yes, I do apologize for killing all those messagers,” said the dragon. “Oh, it is not your fault you have a cold and that is why I have come here to take care of you,” said Ellen. “Yes, lets finish the tea and cake and then go start a fire in the fireplace,” said the dragon. They finished their cake and tea and then sat by the fire and read the many books in the dragon’s library. THE END Tweet
