From now on I yell "come in" when, Calli, my dog goes the the door barking.

Who say dogs can't think for themselves? I have two German Shepherds,
one the bravest female and the other my shy male, together, they make a
great team.

When I just want to lay in chair and watch TV my male comes to the
rescue, laying down keeping me company, except for one day. He'll
sometimes sit with his head on the arm of the chair, for hours, well
this time he put both his front paws on the arm. As I am petting his
head one back leg, then the other, plop, he is now on my lap. Mind you
the chair I am in is a recliner, totally reclided. It was alright until
the doorbell rang.

My ferocious female Calli ran to the door barking, now usually my shy
lap dog Gus would run upstairs but not this time, he felt very safe in
my lap. Well I couldn't get up, he was so heavy I couldn't close the
chair. Trying to tell him to get up but being too nervous over the
knocking, he wouldn't budge.

Finally whoever it was left, Calli stopped barking, and Gus got off. You
got to love them.

Now I ask, who says they can't plan ahead? I would give both dogs a
bisquit. Calli would gobble hers and try to get Gus's. He would walk
around to house, with the bone in his mouth, looking for a safe place
to chew, at his own leisure. Not being able to find such a place, he
would come to me and stare with those big brown eyes, as if to ask me
to tell Calli to leave him alone. I would, and all was well. Except for
this one time.

I gave them bones, she gobbled hers then ran to the door barking. I go
to answer the door, Gus drops his bone and runs upstairs to hide.
Finding no one there, I shut the door and turn to ask Calli what she
was barking at, no Calli at the door, she was eating Gus's bone! Now
how is that for planning? She knows when someone knocks I get up to
answer and Gus drops anything he is doing to run upstairs and hide.
Proud of herself she was laying there eating Gus's bone. It gets
better!

Who says dogs aren't as smart as we are? Not me!!!!

I fed both dogs their dinner. I am now making mine, a nice big thick
juicy steak, with baked potato, a side of asparagus, and some garlic
toast, boy I couldn't wait til it was done!

Ah! Dinner was ready. I fixed my plate, walked into the family room,
pushed play, went to my favorite chair, and sat down to eat. Now Gus
would never touch my plate, if I left it for any reason, where Calli,
now that's another story. She would take candy a baby if set down, she
didn't care who's it was, if you put it down to her you did not want it
any more.

Enjoying my meal Calli jumps up, looked at the door, and ran over
barking. Gus takes off up stairs, I PUT DOWN MY PLATE go the the door,
start to open and realized, no Calli. I don't have to tell you where
she was, needless to say I had a hamberger for dinner.

Now that took planning! Don't ever trust your dog, when they bark at the
front door, there might be something up the paw!
