Who'd have thought a simple invitation round to their house would have killed me? | |||
Dinner Party They invited me round as I hadn’t seen the pair of them for a while. I walked up the gravel drive and knocked on the door, it opened almost immediately. ‘Ah, there you are, come in.’ I stepped inside and followed her into the kitchen. She noticed me glancing round and added ‘he’s in the garage fiddling with the car’. ‘Whats wrong with it?’ ‘He had a few too many and rolled it over.’ ‘blimey, not hurt too bad I hope’. ‘Well the hospital wouldn’t let me see him, so I snuck in late at night and brought him home. I can look after him much better here. Go ask about it and I’ll make some sandwiches.’ She started slicing some chicken so I opened the connecting door and stepped into the dingy garage. It smelt of oil and turpentine and something sickly. The car looked bad, the front was badly damaged. I could see him hunched over the steering wheel. ‘You’ll never get that going again!’ - no response. That was odd. I walked round and opened the drivers door. I screamed and jumped back. With a wet thud, the body fell from the car onto the concrete floor. What was left of his face was covered in blood, his neck lolled at an impossible angle, parts of the spine poked out through his back. ‘What’s the matter? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. I couldn’t speak, so beckoned towards the body. ‘I know, he’ll never get it finished if he keeps napping like that. Help me wake him up.’ ‘He..he’s dead’ I stammered. She backed away from me muttering ‘You killed him, he was fine when I left him’ I froze when she unhooked a crowbar from the wall. ‘Murderer!’ she screamed and swung the bar down on the top of my head. Wiping the blood from her hands she went into the kitchen, closed the garage door and began to prepare dinner for three. Tweet
