A dream takes on human attributes in a symbolic poem of loss. | |||
THE END The doctor came into the waiting room, just like in the movies. “Your dream has died,” he said. “But the heart is still beating. Would you like to see it one last time?” I hardly recognized my dream. It was so pale lying there. I held its cold hand, remembering the good times. I hated to leave it there, alone, with its heart still beating. So. It was over. I nodded to ‘pull the plug’ and left it lying there, covered with a white sheet, to have no more. “Goodbye, my dream,” I whispered. “Goodbye, my heart. I will miss you.” I left the hospital alone. My dream in a cold, storage vault, alone among strangers, with no one to hold it, to love it, anymore. Tweet
