Tonia is aware that an evil lurks in the snow but when she tries to tell the pastor, he believes she is crazy. She runs out and finds herself lost in the snow.

CHAPTER FIVE TONYA'S ENCOUNTER

Pastor Dan looked at the group of zoned out kids and shook his head. He
had tried his best but even he was distracted by the snow. He was a
little worried for the snow had not been in the forecast and it looked
like a small blizzard outside. He wondered if they had enough
provisions to last if they had to stay for longer than planned.

"Since none of you are paying any attention at all, I dismiss you early.
Um, Goerge has K.P.," he announced and it was like a stampede for the
door. All he saw were tons of children leaping up and lunging for the
door. Then he saw Tonya sitting in the corner, her face was pale and
she was shaking. He walked over to her, wondering if she were deathly
ill or something.

"Tonya, are you feeling sick?" he inquired.

"No, I just don't want to go outside," she replied and a single tear
slid down her face.

"Why not? It is snowing and it is beautiful," he urged her to tell him
her fears. This was beyond bizarre, everyone else had fought and
clawed their way our of the stifling building.

"No, it is evil. The snow is pure evil. I can't go out there, it might
get me," Tonya hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face in
them.

"No, the snow is God's creation. It can't be evil, and you're in God's
camp, nothing can hurt you," he smiled gently but inside he was puzzled
and wondering if she should go home. She was sounding as if she were
crazy.

"You're so foolish. It isn't inside the camp, it is waiting outside.
It was waiting for the snow so that the boundaries would be blurred.
Not only in the physical aspect but in the spiritual, emotional, and
mental state," Tonya spoke clearly and calmly as if she knew everything
about the subject. Pastor Dan could only look at her in confusion.

"Do you need to go home?" he asked. What in the world did she mean by
that? She wasn't making any sense, at least not to him.

"How do you propose we do that? There is no way out of the camp now.
It is too late and we are all doomed," Tonya laughed nervously.

"Um, Tonya, I think we should go see the nurse," he helped her up.
There was definitely something wrong with her and he knew that he
needed to get her help right away.

"Why? She can't do anything for us. She too is damned, we all are and
we're all going to die. None of us are safe anymore," she was
determined that what she spoke was the truth and Pastor Dan was unsure
of what to do. The conviction in her voice swayed him but what she
said was insane and irrational. He led her out by her elbow into the
snow.

She began to laugh insanely, "I'm not afraid of the snow! I'm not
afraid of anything! I'm invincible and not even the lord of the dead
can get me now. Ha ha, we're all going to die in the snow but it
doesn't matter anyways."

"Tonya, please calm down," Pastor Dan begged as he led her even further
into the snow. He was not prepared to handle anything like this, it
was as if she had cracked over the snow. She was really starting to
frighten him.

"God, please no," she screamed and yanked away from him. She took off
running as fast as she could towards the Recreation Field. Her eyes
were huge with fright and spit flecked on her face and froze.

"Tonya, come back," Pastor Dan screamed but it was to no use and he
realized it was best to let her go, or so he thought.

Tonya stopped in the field and looked around in confusion. How had she
got here? Why was she here? She stared at the snow and her heart
