Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story side of the cliff. You should have seen his eyes and heard his voice. All traces of sanity were gone and you want me just to forget about it," Brenda was so tired of quarrelling with her friends but she refused to be pulled into the lie that everything was okay. "There are other things in life to worry about, for instance, your friends. We've lost all patience and we demand that you quit either your new found obsession or us. Jack is the only one who refuses to leave your side and Tyson but Tyson wants to take car of you. So which is it?" Beverly was so irritated that for the moment, she felt no regret for blurting everything that she had just stated. "You guys are breaking our friendship off? Who's all apart of this?" Brenda felt rage and hurt flow through her. "Amanda, Elyse, Michelle, Shelby, Melissa, and Tonya. We're just too fed up to take anymore and we're sorry," Beverly now felt bad and hoped that Brenda was convinced to drop the nagging issue. "Well screw you guys. Who needs such lousy friends who won't be there when you need them and I do. I'm done with talking to you and your little group. Jack and Tyson are the only two that I find worthy enough to talk to," Brenda slammed the phone down into the receiver. Beverly took the phone away from her ear and looked at it with sadness heavy in her heart. She had just lost one of the sweetest and most genuine friends she had ever known besides Amanda. Somehow she knew that they would never be friends again and this was a final ending. She hung the phone up and began to cry heartily. Brenda watched the camp approach with loathing in her heart. She had vouched not to go but her father had thought it would be best for her. He thought, besides the stalking incident that it would take her mind off her mother's death which had happened only a year ago, right before winter camp. She rode on the bus in silence for no one would speak to her. Elyse gave her the cold shoulder and wouldn't even look at her and she really wasn't close to anyone else. She knew that Brady was up here waiting for her and that she would die up at camp this weekend. The bus passed into the camp and rising panic blinded her for an instant. She wanted the bus to turn around and take her home but it was too late to turn around. The bus parked and everyone piled out of the bus, all except for Brenda. She stepped hesitantly down the stairs and stood in the brisk cold air, looking around her in shock. Nothing had changed except that they had torn down the parking garage. She saw groups of kids lounging around talking and she spotted her old group. Beverly, Amanda, Tonya, Shelby, Elyse, and Michelle were all conversing. She felt a longing to go and join them but they no longer spoke to each other. Jack emerged from behind the old group and walked over to Brenda. "Hi, how are you doing?" she asked. "Oh peachy. No one speaks to me except for you and I get dirty looks from everyone else," Brenda sighed and sounded so tired. "I'm so sorry but Tyson and I are here and we'll speak to you and sit with you. In fact, here comes Tyson," Jack smiled hopefully. "Brenda, oh how I miss you," Tyson hugged her tight to his chest and she almost melted into his arms. She still cared for him as deeply as she had when she had first been in his arms. "Trust me. I missed you too," she shivered for her jacket was in her bag. They went to get her bag and soon she was settled in he cabin. In there, she was very lonely. Elyse was also in there but Elyse just ignored her completely and since everyone else was from her church, they did likewise. She knew even if Brady was not able to get her, that she would be miserable none the less. The next morning, she was last to head down to the Mess Hall. She had to walk by the hated cliff and she felt sick to her stomach. She wasn't sure that she would be able to handle it all by herself. She took a deep breath and began to walk by, making sure that her eyes were averted from the sight. She couldn't help herself and cast a sideways glance at the cursed place. A scream escaped her lips and she ran the rest of the way to the Mess Hall. She burst in hardly able to breathe and saw everyone looking at her. People that she knew and had been close to before Brady, rolled their eyes and looked away. She felt the panic ebbing away and embarrassment replacing her fear. Tyson and Jack waved her over to their empty table and she sidled over. "Are you okay?" Jack wanted to know, her eyes full of concern. "There was a red rose left on the cliff. I saw it and ran. I was all by myself and I couldn't handle it," she gasped out. Tyson leapt up and stalked out, his face full of purpose. Watching him go to check it out made Brenda's heart pound furiously. He was for sure her hero and he continued to make himself more and more into her life. She calmed down and drank some water before Tyson came back, empty handed. He looked very worried and he sat at the table with a huff. "Listen to me and please don't despise me. There was no rose on the cliff, and even if there was, someone must have taken it or perhaps it was innocent. Someone doing a romantic gesture and you just happened upon it," Tyson spoke to her calmly. He knew that her friends who had doubted her heavily and expressed it were now excommunicated. "Why doesn't anyone ever believe me? I mean, thanks for checking it out but still, ohm who am I kidding? I'm the only one whose aware of how dangerous he is and I'll be the only one to recognize him when he attacks," she grumbled. She hated being the only one aware of what was going on. Everyone else was to naïve and foolish to understand the truth about Brady. She noticed Jack and Tyson give each other a knowing look. "Oh yeah, that's it. Give each other the "she's crazy" look and see if I care. I don't. Look, I need to be alone. Coming up here was a big mistake and facing everyone was an even bigger one," she stood up and waved her adieus and then left. She decided that she needed to face the cliff. It had done no harm to her and had in fact aided her in escape from the psycho stalker. It was a good idea but the closer she got, the more fearful she became. At one point, she just about turned and ran the other way. She couldn't decide if she really needed to go there for it wouldn't prove anything. She was going to turn back when a voice inside her called her a coward and a sissy. She was determined to prove that voice wrong so gradually, she approached the cliff. She even threw all caution to the wind and sat on the edge, her feet dangling over and her back to the forest. Suddenly she was reliving the struggle with Brady and the final act of pushing him over the edge. She could still hear Tyson telling her that no one was there and the numbing sensation that he still breathed moving over her. The faces of her ex-friends flashed over her eyes and she drew her knees to her chest. She began to cry, not because of the memories but because for the first time, she realized that her obsession was destroying her life. At that same moment, there was a large snap in the forest behind her and she froze like a stunned animal. She didn't dare look behind her or move in case she was not spotted yet. She could see hr own hands shaking and she was feeling lightheaded. She realized that the dizziness was because she was holding her breath. She let it out in a big whoosh, then she looked over her shoulder. Tyson was approaching with his hands behind his back. He smiled at her and she sighed in relief. She had expected anyone but Tyson but was thankful that it was him and not a blue eyed stud. Tyson was incredible to still care for her even after she acted like a nutcase herself. She smiled at him as he approached and for a moment saw herself in his arms forever as his wife then she shook the image out her mind. "Can I sit here?" he inquired, even though he knew that she would say yes. He wondered himself why he was so attracted to her and why he was going to do what he was about to do. "Sure, the seat is unsaved," Brenda replied. He had so many manners, it always blew her away though she really didn't mind. "You okay?" Tyson wanted to know. He was beyond worried about her and wondered about her sanity. "I don't know. I mean I feel as if everyone thinks I am crazy. The worse part, is so do I. I mean, I have believed in this thing so solid and when I sat here, I realized how insane I've been acting and how many people I've hurt. I'm so thankful for you and Jack," Brenda leaned her head on his shoulder. He casually draped an arm around her shoulders. The mutual touch seemed to signify things ahead and it greatly calmed her bouncing emotions. "Here, I have a present for you," Tyson pulled out a large white teddy bear with red hearts on its' boxers and an "I love you" balloon in its' paw. He had waited half a year to give this to her, when he felt that the moment was right. "Thank you. It is so sweet," she smiled up at him. This was more than even she could have imagined. She guessed that she would forever have this bear for it represented her first love. "His name is Mr. Cuddles and he is only here to cheer you up," Tyson laughed. His hope was that whenever she was feeling bummed out, she could bring out Mr. Cuddles and think of him thus cheer up. He knew that was arrogant but he knew that if she had done the same for him, it would have worked for him. "Mr. Cuddles, Tyson would make a better cheer up than you," Brenda secretly confided in the cute bear's ear. Tyson looked at her, she smiled, and then they kissed. It was nothing like their first passionate kiss after he had rescued her but it was full of tender love none the less. She wanted to cling to him forever and never let him go but she knew that was impossible. They finally parted the embrace and smiled at each other. "I told you so," she insisted in the little bear's ear. She was already taking advantage of the furry friend. "Will you be my girlfriend?" Tyson questioned. He was sure that he loved her with all his heart but he wasn't sure if he was ready for the full time responsibility it would take to maintain her. Though, her realizing that her obsession was crazy was a positive sign. Perhaps there was hope for her after all. "How could I say no?" Brenda had to know. She could never say no to him for she had liked him since she was seven or eight. He had stolen her heart in an instant and had always had a claim to it. They kissed a second time, but for the first time as girlfriend and boyfriend. This added some spice and the rest of camp went without incident. By the time she had to go home, she had forgotten that she was supposed to die up there. But everything in life does not flow smoothly and before she boarded the bus, Jack came running up. "Look, Brenda, I think it's great that you've finally begun to get over Brady but until you are fully over him, I really think we should part ways. I'm sorry," she looked down at her feet. "What do you mean?" she was shaking with hurt for she knew exactly what her best friend meant. She had expected it from all the rest but never from Jack. "You know what I mean. I'll see you around," and Jack walked away forever but the two ex-best friends had no clue that it was truly the end. Tweet
