When I think I know everything is going on around me, that’s when I get into deep trouble. I try to start out every day with the idea that I don’t know everything. The only person I can really trust for everything is the Lord.

When my wife walked into the room, she looked at me and said, “Is your
remote control working okay today?”

How she said it caused me to think a little about what was happening.
Something seemed a little bit out of whack.

Then she handed me two new batteries, took the old ones and walked away
with a smile.

Thinking about this, I came up with a plan to figure out if she was
playing me or not. I put a little X on the old batteries, and a little
0 on the new ones. I have been wrong so many times, but the thing that
danced in my head was, what if I'm right about this?

The batteries worked for two days, and then on the third day, once
again, they were dead.

Before I could say anything, The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage
brought me two new batteries for the remote. “You probably need new
batteries today, don't you?”

I put the new batteries in, and the remote was working as usual. So
before I went to bed, I checked the marks on the batteries, and it was
a 0.

When I got up in the morning, I first checked the batteries and
discovered both batteries had an X on them. So now I was beginning to
see what was happening, she was switching them out at her discretion.

While I was trying to process this whole thing I was reminded of one of
my favorite of Bible verses. Proverbs 3:5-6, “5 Trust in the Lord with
all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all
thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

When I think I know everything is going on around me, that's when I get
into deep trouble. I try to start out every day with the idea that I
don't know everything. The only person I can really trust for
everything is the Lord.
