PART 3 - CH 9 | |||
NINE The sun was shining again the next morning. The view on the Observation Screen on the Bridge showed beautiful, sparkling seas and blue sky all around. Sarah had made coffee and she and Kane were sitting on the couch drinking it and looking at the view. “Going for a swim?” Kane asked. Sarah nodded. “A swim then breakfast then I don't want disturbed in the Galley.” “Why not?” “I'm making us a special dinner for Blaze's birthday.” “Okay. I'll be busy in the workroom anyway. I'm making him a present.” Sarah smiled. “What?” Kane grinned back. “I'll show you when its--” He stopped. The two of them looked at each other. “Did you just hear that?” he asked. Sarah nodded. The Observation Screen had speakers at the sides which could be turned off or on to pick up external sounds. They were on at present and they heard the sound again. It was the unmistakable sound of a horse whinnying. Kane grabbed the remote control and panned the view round on the Screen and the two of them were stunned at what they saw. Blaze was near the Falcon, waving to them, sitting on a white pony! Sarah and Kane glanced at each other again then quickly put down their coffee and rushed down to the Exit Bay. Kane pressed the wall button, the door slid open and they rushed out. “Hi!” a grinning Blaze said to them. The white pony whinnied and pawed the ground a couple of times. “Where the fuck did you get that!?!” Kane asked. Sarah was too stunned to elbow him for cursing. “The planet gave me it as a birthday present!” Blaze replied. “It knew I wanted one so it gave me one!” Sarah strolled over and stroked the pony's neck. It was a beautiful, pure white horse with a thick, blonde mane. “She's beautiful! She said. “Absolutely gorgeous!” Blaze frowned. “How d'you know it's a girl?” “Because it hasn't got ba--” “Frank!” Sarah snapped. Blaze grinned. “Yeah, I thought so myself.” “So where did it come from?” Sarah asked. Blaze shrugged. “I woke up this morning and looked out and there she was. I thought maybe it was a joke you two had rigged up but then I walked over and she was for real.” Kane strolled over and stroked the pony. Click here to read the rest of this story (235 more lines)
