I will be the first to admit I am no e.e. cummings LOL. This is long winded, but one of my best I believe. It's about standing up after love walked out the door. Kinda :-s.

Or hold her closer to me?

Why it is we have so much in common

but on this we adamantly disagree?

We're both choosing death.

Don't know if you understand that yet.

Somewhere in the future, me,

you'll one day forget.

~

See this little butterfly has a secret fantasy.

One she's always held dear.

The person she's dreamed of

is someone who will unconditionally care.

She wants to be the one fought for, not against.

She wants to be the one who's held close.

Not the one who's left to rot.

Or the one who's left exposed.

~

It's not much to ask.

But it's a lot to give.

Too much for a mere moral.

Too little from one who's not sensitive.

She'll never live her dream.

She'll lock it in her heart.

She'll stand on strength.

No one will see her fall apart.

~

Fly off little butterfly.

Leave for distant, beautiful, skies.

I'm done with you.

My heart can't take love's lies.

Go free sultry siren.

I no longer need desire.

My soul has turned to dust.

There's no one to feel its fire.

~

Unfortunately, or fortunately,

love will someday return.

I'll slam the door quickly.

I refuse to, again, be burned.

After today there's no need to look to others.

For no one will love me as much as myself.

I don't need companionship.

My heart goes on the shelf.

~

It's too painful to care.

Never again will I trust.

Too many pieces have been given away.

Never again will I lust.

Close your eyes and leave me.

I suppose it's for the best.

Yet there's something you need to know.

You'll always carry my heart in your chest.
