Good advice can come from some odd places... | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story thinking, “None of the dammed old mans business. No secret really but how could he guess what was in my heart, know what my soul needed? You know old man it's just not right to make fun of a persons dream.” Seeing he had angered the young man Bob Johnson immediately stopped laughing and in a soft earnest voice said, “It's all right son! I was not always old you know. I had my dreams too. It was not of Nashville but I once had some big important dreams. I really do understand about hope and dreams, maybe yours will work out. Don't be angry with old Bob. Here's a little advice from somebody that's been around the block a time or two. When you get off that bus in Nashville, buy yourself a ticket for home and hang on to it. If things go badly for you take that, ticket out and read it. Read that ticket and remember how things were back home and what you came to Nashville looking for. It will help you find your way. Who knows my advice might even help you become rich and famous. The young guy no longer seeming angry nodded his head in understanding then asked “Say Mr. Johnson how did you know I played guitar?” “Oh that was just a guess really but I thought I saw callus on the fingers of your left hand and with the strength of the grip in your right and adding in Nashville it was one and one make two. Are you getting hungry son? Do we have time to go across the street to the Cameo Restaurant and grab a bite before that bus of yours comes to take you off to become Nashville's best guitar player?” “Yes sir I could do with something to eat. Maybe a slice of pie and some coffee” “You know young man you never did let me know your name.” “Sorry Mr. Johnson I guess I didn't say. My name is Chet, Chet Atkins Tweet
