It was a winter storm. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story Its irrevocable effects in its wake. The vigorous action of the storm was My heart racing each time I saw her face. Each snowflake that hit me was a single Kiss imprinted upon my cheek, or hers; Upon my lips, or hers—and each kiss I Will always remember—no expression Of emotion will I ever forget. ~~~ But no storm goes on indefinitely. This storm, this blizzard, was no exception. Soon the winds calmed. Soon the violence ceased. Soon it was over. Before long all was Only snow on the ground. The lingering Remnants of an exciting period of time Were then left to melt away forever. ~~~ The process was slow. The beauty remained. Amidst the change of seasons—as the cold Air, once so captivating, departed— There was still the old beauty to be seen. Yes, one needed only to see the trees, Coated with melting ice, to recognize The lasting beauty after the storm’s end. And indeed I will never fail to Perceive the unutterable beauty Which drew me initially to her. ~~~ But still, one cannot fail to notice That the frozen branches surrender a tear; A single drop, tumbling from the warming ice Toward the ground, embodying in itself This end to the storm. For as this vessel, Bearing within the pain of a good-bye, Impacts the ground, it is absorbed into The earth forever. And so the effects Of this storm will wear away. They will take Their time, but the emotion will subside. And soon I will be left with memories. Tweet
