Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story or thought she meant it harm. ~ Laura looked around. Her eyes feasted on elephants and giraffes. They were too exotic and would need to be tamed. There were lions and tigers. Laura knew about the hidden dangers of these wild cats. Laura even saw a polar bear or two. She didn't like them though. They seemed too cold. ~ Laura turned back to shelf she started with. Low and behold, far in the back, neglected and abused was a little green turtle with eyes of brown. The hard shell was used for its protection Laura knew. But she also saw the soft middle the turtle hid from everyone's view. ~ Picking up the turtle Laura knew she found her match. Hugging it too her, Laura repeated something she heard once. “I've known you since before time.” ~ Walking out of the store, with the turtle in her arms, Laura told the animal a secret for his ears only. “Forever and a day I will love you and keep you safe.” Then she sealed the promise with a kiss. © December 13, 2008 by Lori Tweet
