you want a drink?”

“Yes, please,” Dominique looked to the server and ordered a glass of
iced tea.

“The same for me too, please.” Simeon reached for a bread stick and
passed it to her.

“Thank you.” Dominique took up the temptation, not only from the food,
but also from the question in his eyes.

“So polite.” Simeon laughed at her. He loved to tell her, on the
computer, how she amused him. He called her cute, silly, funny, little
stickers which hinted at her character.

“Sorry.” Dominique blushed at the words, hating to be labeled again. She
thought it was his way of making her human. But to her it was another
classification of the things people wanted her to be. Dominique craved
the attention her mind could bring, not the attraction her personality
brought to the table, so to speak.

“I was wondering how long it would take before you said those words.”
Simeon, teasing her again, chuckled.

“Well if you'd let me say it on the computer today,” Dominique put the
bread stick on her plate. “It may not have slipped out then.”

“Maybe.” Simeon watched her play with the olive oil and was amazed at
the grace she expelled. Even in her nervousness she was still a true
Southern Belle with all the proper manners. He liked that about her.
She knew where to draw lines in the sand, and knew where to pitch her
tent for upcoming battles. Dominique also knew when to back off and
give him room to internalize.

“It's true what you said though.” Dominique, rolling her eyes with
pleasure, took a bite of the oiled bread.

“I was right?” Simeon watched as the first taste hit her palate. It was
divine watching a real woman eat. Most people didn't care what the food
tasted like, only cared about getting through a meal. Real women
enjoyed the pleasure received from each morsel. Simeon watched as
Dominique closed her eyes on the heavenly taste of fresh baked bread.

“Delicious.” She pronounced as she chewed. “What was I saying?”

“I was right about something.” Simeon watched as she coyly looked into
his eyes. Knowing she was very outspoken, he also knew she could be
very shy at times. Simeon watched her opening up to him more and more.

“Right.” Dominique swallowed before continuing. “I didn't know how much
I used the word ‘sorry' until you brought it to my attention.”

“Really?” Simeon watched as she picked up the bread stick again. He
loved watching her. Having her sitting in front of him was much better
than his imagination led him to believe. She seemed so reserved, yet at
the same time she was coming out of her skin from nerves.

“Yes, really.” Dominique thought about taking another bite, but decided
against it to enjoy some pleasant conversation instead. “I've caught
myself doing it all day and was amazed how many times I wanted to say
it.”

“Um . . . ” Simeon watched the inner struggles and was entertained. Here
was a woman who would rather converse than eat. It was a woman after
his own heart. Though he loved good food there was nothing more
stimulating than good conversation over good food. He watched her move
slightly back as the waiter put the drinks and salad before them.

“What are you thinking?” She asked as the waiter left.

Simeon laughed. It was a normal question for her. Dominique was forever
trying to probe his mind, get to the heart of what he was thinking and
feeling.

“Sor . . . ” She laughed with him as she was about to say something
which could get her in trouble again.

“No problem.” Simeon winked at her. “I was just thinking how beautiful
you look this evening.”

“Stop.” Dominique blushed again. Didn't he know where this evening was
leading too? She thought to herself. She was a “sure thing.” There was
no end to butter her up.

“It's true.” Simeon reached over and took her hand. “You are a beautiful
woman.”

“Flaws and all, uh?” Dominique reacted to the caress of his fingers. Her
heart jumped and hot molten liquid coursed through her body. Her
private areas jumped with the increased pressure of longing.

“No flaws I can see.” Simeon watched her looking at his hand and
wondered what was going through her mind. He knew it would be a jumble
of thoughts and feelings. Not knowing for sure if they would be
thoughts of pleasure or apprehension, Simeon made a vow to move slowly.

“Stick around.” The words left her mouth before she thought of what they
meant. Dominique reddened at what the words hinted too. There was no
future for them, and she knew this. But knowing didn't stop her from
wanting it to be an untruth.

“I plan too.” Simeon softly whispered.

“Really?” Dominique risked looking up at him, and was amazed to see
red-hot desire in those beautiful eyes staring back at her.

“Why shouldn't I?” Holding her hand and looking into her eyes for signs
of retreat, Simeon answered her question with a question. It was a game
he loved to play to hide his own feelings from her. To figure out what
she was thinking before he divulged what he was on his mind. It was
also a way to avoid the ones he didn't want to answer.

“Well, for one because we're married.” Dominique breathed a deep sigh at
the reaction of her skin being touched by his fingers again. “And not
to each other.”

“True.” Simeon rubbed the pressure point of her wrist. Feeling her pulse
jump under his fingers made him smile at the pleasure he would find
from this woman.

“Two, I'm not your average woman.” Dominique felt the blood getting
hotter in her veins.

“Yes, that is true.” Simeon smiled at how much desire he saw in her
eyes. He leaned down to kiss the spot he'd been tenderly rubbing.

“Three . . . ” Dominique's breath quickened at the touch of his lips.
Her spine jolted from the force of her yearning. She wondered how long
it had been since her body felt this way. Too long was the only
response she could come up with.

“What is number three?” Simeon, listening to her gasp for air, replaced
his finger with his tongue and ran it across her wrist.

“What?” Dominique, relishing in the sweet caress of his tongue, closed
her eyes.

“You were naming reasons I shouldn't stick around.” Simeon laughed at
her loss of concentration. He pulled back to let her catch her bearing.
He had proved his point. The desire he felt for her was real and not as
she imagined.

“Yes, well, um . . . ” Dominique stammered. “Three would be that this
could be very dangerous.” She whispered as she pulled her hand out of
his grasp.

“Could be, yes.” Simeon released her hand with regret. Time for that
later, he thought as he watched her. “But it would be the best kind of
danger. Don't you think?” Not really wanting a reply, he asked.

The waiter saved Dominique from further embarrassment with the placing
of their dinner orders. She looked over the menu as if she were
ordering a new car. Finally she decided on the Shrimp Scampi with lite
butter and Angel Hair Pasta. Simeon ordered a medium-rare steak with a
baked potato and all the fixings.

“So, you want to call this whole thing off?” He asked getting back to
her reasons for them to not be together.

“I didn't say that.” Dominique jumped to answered.

“Okay,” Simeon laughed at her eagerness to continue with whatever she
was going to call this joining between them.

“I'm just saying,” Dominique, with some hesitation, replied. “We don't
even know each other. There are so many things we haven't said about
our past. You're recently out of a long term affair. You haven't
recovered from that. And I've never done this, well physical, before.”

“And?” Simeon moved in his chair to get comfortable under her probing
eyes.

“Well, how do you go about all this?” Dominique waved her arms in the
air. “What's the protocol?”

Simeon laughed at her use of words. “There is no so called protocol. You
go with your feelings, open your mind to the possibilities of what
could happen, and close your mind to everything but what is happening
at this very moment. There's no emotional string. It's just you and I
having fun together as a man and a woman should.”

“No one else, no strings.” Dominique said with a heavy heart. The reason
she was doing this wasn't because she didn't love her husband. It was
she felt unappreciated at home. She had been married for almost ten
years and the flame was gone. They stayed together because of the
comfort each provided the other. Dominique had no plans to give up that
solace for the unknown this man wasn't offering in the first place. She
wanted to feel desired and cherished. If this man was offering that and
nothing else, who was she to complain?

“This ‘thing' will be a fling and that's it. I know what I'm doing.” She
whispered to herself for what seemed the thousandth time. It was the
only way she could look at it. Any other manner would be detrimental to
her well-being.

“Excuse me?” Simeon leaned in to hear her.

“Sorry, nothing.” Dominique looked up at him in annoyance for using the
word again and at being caught talking to herself.

“Ah! Back to that, uh?” Simeon laughed at her look of frustration.

“No,” Dominique looked for a word to use in place of “sorry” but they
all paled in comparison. “I don't know what else to say.” She laughed.

“It's okay.” Simeon smiled at her.

They were saved by the arrival of dinner. They ate in silence. Each lost
in their own thoughts. She wishing everything could be as easy as he
described. His thoughts were of what she must be going through
emotionally and mentally. Simeon knew when they were alone it would be
easier. He, loving the thought he could be caught, looked around. Not
noticing anyone he recognized, he finished off his meal and looked to
see her playing with her dinner more than she was eating it.

“Not hungry?” He quietly asked.

“For once, no.” Dominique's butterflies made her laugh. Normally she
loved a good meal, but tonight the inner turmoil was winning the
struggle inside her head instead of the hungry in her stomach.

“You ready to go then?” Simeon nodded to the waiter for the check.

“Yes, please.” Dominique pushed her plate away. “I think the sooner we
get it over with the less difficult it will be. I'll be right back.”
She got up and headed to the rest rooms.

“Well, no one has ever put it like that.” Simeon said as he reached for
his credit card and handed it to the waiter.

Dominique walked into the rest room and headed straight for the long
mirrors over the sinks. “What are you doing?” She asked herself washing
her hands. “Do you even know? It was fun while it was on the computer.
But this is real life, girlie. To top it off this is YOUR life. Are you
ready to do this? Are you sure you can go through with it?” Dominique
turned off the water and reached for the paper towels to dry her hands.

“What about your family?” She looked back in the mirror. “What about
your future plans? What are you doing here?” She heard someone walk out
of a stall. Embarrassment poured over her by being caught talking to
herself again. A kindly looking little old lady joined her at the
sinks.

“Sorry,” She whispered before she could catch herself. “I didn't know
anyone was in here.”

“No problem, dearie.” The elder lady said as she began to wash her
hands.

Dominique threw the paper towel away and headed for the door.

“One minute please.” The lady said behind her.

“Ma'am?” Dominique turned back at the sound. Anything to distract her
from walking out of this room and facing the utter confusion of her
life, she thought to herself.

“I don't know what you're planning, dear.” The lady gently started. “But
if it causes this much disturbance it might not be a wise decision.”

“I'm thinking about cheating on my husband.” Dominique, in the hope of
releasing the words to the universe and freeing her soul, blurted out.

“Oh.” The lady touched Dominique on the arm. “No one can decide for you,
but a word of advice.”

“Yes, ma'am.” Dominique wanted words of wisdom from this warmhearted
woman. Anything to help her make up her mind on what to do in this
situation, even if it were kind words spoken from an elder lady who
couldn't know what she was experiencing inside.

“Don't fall in love with him.” The woman got a far away look in her
eyes. “I did that once and the love turned deadly. If you do this,
don't let it go to the heart.” She said as she dried her hands and left
Dominique to watch her retreating back. “It'll kill you if you do, just
like it did to me. My soul died when he said goodbye and so will
yours.”

“What?” Dominique questioned out loud. “That's your advice?”

“Yes, dear.” The woman turned with the door open. “I wish someone had
given it to me once upon a time.” With that she walked away from
Dominique and left her with more doubts then aid.

“Great.” Dominique said as she walked to the door. On opening it, she
saw Simeon standing there talking to the woman and an older gentleman.

“Well, ya'll have a good night.” Simeon shook the man's hand.

“Thanks young man for humoring an old man.” The elder man laughed as the
older couple walked away.

“Remember what I said.” The lady mouthed as she walked away.

Simeon walked over to Dominique and took her elbow. “He was telling me
they've been married for fifty years.” He grinned at her.

“Really?” She waited while he opened the door for her.

“Yeah, and he loves her more today than he did all those years ago.”
Simeon laughed at the elder couple walking arms in arm. “I wish I had
what they did.” He broad casted his thoughts out loud as he opened the
car door for her.

“I do.” Dominique, whispering to herself, thought about what she had at
home.

“Do you have a habit of mumbling?” Simeon, helping her in the car,
asked.

“What about my car?” She ignored his question by asking one of her own.

“We'll pick it up later.” Simeon closed her door and walked around to
the driver's seat. “I know a place we can go.” He said as he got in and
started the motor.

“Okay.” Dominique wondered if she could go through with the act of
cheating.

“Second thoughts?” Simeon, turning onto the highway, had to question.

“No.” Dominique, looking over at his profile, quickly answered.

“It would be okay if you did.” Simeon looked over at her and searched
her eyes for the truth. “It's human nature to second guess yourself on
something like this. The moral dilemma alone is enough for them to
interfere.”

“Well, now that you mention it.” Dominique didn't want to start lying to
him.“I do have some reluctance.”

“Do you want to talk about it?” Simeon wanted her comfortable. Things
would be easier if she wasn't so fidgety. He wanted this to be special
for her, as it was for him. Dominique could think all she wanted about
how she thought he felt, but only he knew for sure what he was
experiencing inside. Just because he had affairs before didn't mean
they weren't exceptional to him. He's loved every woman he'd slept
with, in some way or form. This woman was no different.

“That little old lady back there?” Dominique started to tell him what
the lady told her in the rest room.

“What about her?” Simeon made a left turn into a popular hotel. He
waited in line for valet parking.

“She told me not to fall in love with you.” Dominique, blurting out
against her better judgment, cringed.

Simeon laughed and looked over at her. “Did she now? What else did she
say?”

Dominique couldn't look at him as she recounted what the lady said to
her. “If it caused too much strain, it wasn't a good idea.”

“What did you tell her?” Simeon was taken aback at the conversation she
had with a total stranger in a public rest room.

“I told her I was about to cheat on my husband.” Dominique looked out
the windshield as the line moved up.

“And that was her advice?” Simeon moved up a car length.

“That's what I said.” Dominique looked out the corner of her eye at him.
She couldn't believe she was having this discussion with her soon to be
lover. Why couldn't I keep my mouth shut? She thought.

“What did she say to that?” Simeon looked back at her and could read the
uncertainty on her face. Anyone who knew this woman could read her
expressions like a first grade reader. He admired this about her,
envied her for being able to be so open with her feelings. Simeon hid
from the world because he knew how the world saw men like him. Men who
cheated on their wives were the scum of the earth. It didn't matter
what was wrong with the marriage, it was forbidden. This was the reason
behind his favorite line.“Ask for forgiveness instead of permission.
It's gentler on the heart, and the soul.”

“She said she once had an affair and it proved to be deadly for her.”
Dominique shyly looked over at him for his reaction.

“I wonder what she meant by that.” Simeon pulled up and got out as the
valet opened the door.

“I don't know.” Dominique told him over the roof of the car. “She then
said something about her soul dying.”

“Well,” Simeon walked around the car to take her elbow in his hand.
“Apparently she never told her husband. They seemed happy together.
Didn't they?”

“I guess so.” Dominique allowed him to lead her into the den of
iniquity. She tried to do what he told her to do earlier in the evening
and blocked out the thoughts of the woman in the rest room. Dominique
wanted to enjoy this evening. It could be the only one they had
together, she didn't want it ruined because she was being plagued by
unwanted thoughts.

“A room for the night, please.” Simeon told the desk clerk.

“Yes, sir.” She typed into her computer to see what was available. “Any
baggage?” The young lady asked looking up at him.

“Not tonight, no.” Simeon handed her a hundred dollar bill.

“Thank you for staying at the Marriott.” The girl smiled at him as she
handed him the room key and his change.

“Thank you. We will.” Simeon, winking at her, took the money and key
from her hand. He led Dominique to the elevators. “You okay?”

“Yes,” Dominique smiled at him as they waited for the elevator. Okay,
one lie won't hurt, she thought as she walked blindly down the path to
promiscuousness.

They got into the car and rode in silence. Simeon thinking he would
reassure her once they got to their room. Dominique considering if she
could still back out. The door opened with indecisive thoughts still
running through her head. They walked down the hall a short piece.

“Two twenty one,” Simeon released her to unlock the room. He stepped out
of the way so she could enter first.

“Lovely room.” Dominique walked over to the patio windows. She looked
out at the city she loved. It was close to her home, the place she
shopped every week, and the city in which she would be deflowered. She
wasn't a virgin to sex, just to adultery.

“Yes it is.” Simeon threw the key down on the bureau and walked up
behind her. He moved her hair out of the way and kissed her neck, and
watched the goose bumps rise on her skin.

“Simeon?” Dominique turned to hide her face.

“What now, My Love?” He blocked her attempt to look in her eyes to see
what she was thinking.

“Are we really going to do this?” Dominique asked as she looked at his
chest instead of at him.

“Do you not want to?” Simeon prayed she did. He'd thought about nothing
but this moment for weeks. To have her in his arms was heaven enough,
but he wanted more of her and from her.

“I do.” Dominique pulled him in for a long embrace. It felt strange
holding another man beside her husband, better in some ways,
heartbreaking in others. “But I'm scared.”

“Scared of what, Angel?” Simeon, rubbing her cheek with his trying to
soothe away her fears, whispered to set the mood.

“Of what is about to happen.” Dominique, enjoying this stranger's touch
a little too much for her own good, whispered back.

“Nothing is going to happen you don't want it to.” Simeon pulled back to
look in her eyes so she would see the truth in his. “Do you hear me?
Nothing will happen without your consent.”

“It's not that.” Dominique, pulling him back, wanted to hide again from
him, and her feelings. Once she aired them, there was no taking them
back.

“What is it then, Baby?” Simeon, calling her nicknames so she could
relax, whispered into her hair. “Tell me what's inside that pretty head
of yours.”

“It's too late.” Dominique didn't want to admit the truth to herself,
much less to him If she told him what was in her heart he would have
the power to control her. She hated being powerless.

“Too late for what?” Simeon, encouraging her by kissing her head, didn't
want secrets between them. Their situation was hard enough without
them, no use making it more difficult than it had to be.

“I'm already in love with you.” Dominique declaring love for this man
who wasn't her husband, looked into his eyes so he could see the truth.

“I love you too.” Simeon kissed her mouth for the first time. “Things
will work out.”

“You promise?” Dominique, taking a deep breath, plunged into a life
filled with clandestine meetings and dishonest positions.

“Yes.” Simeon kissed her into blissful abandon. “I promise. We may not
be able to be together like we want, but that doesn't stop us from
having this.”

Dominique shut off her brain and allowed the feelings coursing through
her body take over. She would give herself to this man with a pure
heart and a married soul.
