gentle breeze was blowing them, but the window wasn't open. For the
next several weeks each day seemed to bring something strange happening
in the house. Thomas the old gray cat would hiss at something unseen
by the human eye, run under the first available piece of furniture and
stay, refusing to come out. Pictures on the wall would be turned to
face the wall. The furniture in Mrs. Robins' sewing room was arranged
in a different order each day. The item she was working on lay
unfinished because she refused to go into the once loved room. Things
could be heard falling to the floor but upon investigating the sound
nothing would be out of place. The old wooden rocker would be rocking
in the empty room; the sound of footsteps could be heard behind you
when you went up the stairs or down the dark hallway. Mr. Robins once
found a salad fork in his suit pocket with a bit of salad still on it.
Mrs. Robins once found forks, spoons and napkins in her dress pocket,
these things happened to show Mrs. Robins that the little witch had
indeed been in the closet. Mrs. Robins told the story of how she could
feel something pulling the quilts off her bed at night, it was quite a
struggle she claimed to pull them back upon her. Empty candy wrappers,
bits of apples and oranges were also found under the bed eaten she
assumed by the little witch. She got to the point of not wanting to
open the cupboard or go into her closet, knowing what the witch had
warned her about.

They finally moved away and of course I live here. Nobody has lived in
the old house since. They say strange things still go on there. One
person even claims he found a whole sack of Halloween candy in the old
closet. Each Halloween after I have caught sight of a little witch
going from door to door. A bag full of candy in her little hands. I
suppose she still looks for mean and selfish people.”

This is how the story always ends, with one final question from Ms.
Johnson, “When a little witch comes to your door which will it be:
Trick or Treat?”
