Captain Cirk gets all wrapped up. Humor. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story “I said shut the hell up,” she screamed, setting alarm gongs off all over the spaceport. Searchlight beams suddenly crisscrossed the vast open field, dotted with the spires of waiting ships. The three were forced to make a dash across, and into the nearest shelter -- that of an expensive space yacht. “Okay,” the panting Kirk Cirk said, panting while looking around, “let's see what we got here? Trina, close the door and bolt it. Chompy, search the ship. I'll check out the controls.” Griskee was thrown off her bed when the ship abruptly lifted, her sheets of precious poetry falling to the floor. “What the hell?” she screamed in anger, rising to her feet. “Daddy,” she screamed in anger, thinking the family had taken off simply to annoy her -- just like any young girl would have believed. “Oh, Hi there. I almost missed you, until you yelled, sorry, Ma'am.” Chompy stood, sheepishly, in the doorway to her cabin. “Eeeeeee, a monster,” Griskee screamed, backing up and falling over the bed, all four legs and four arms scrambling in fear. “I'm sorry, really I am.” Chompy would have cried if he had been able. He looked so crestfallen as he stood there, fangs dripping in anguish. “I didn't mean to alarm you,” he blubbered weakly. Griskee couldn't remain fearful. Seeing how sad and weak he appeared, her spider instincts took over. Spreading all four arms, she leaped up to comfort him. *** “Can you fly it?” Trina Twiliger asked Captain Cirk. He was trying to fit himself into a seat that was hardly made for human occupation. It resembled something a spider would sit in, he thought. Trina leaned over his broad shoulder. “Come on Cirky, hurry up will you. I can see they're searching the spaceport. That big oaf of yours gave us away,” she lied. The Captain, spreading his fingers over the controls, leaned over, pressing his nose on one button, and sneezing loudly into a speaker there for the purpose, he started the engines. Luckily, during his training he had learned to fly Spider Craft. The ship took off, lifting from it's pad. The searching Security People, thinking it was those damned spiders taking off, stopped to cheer. They then continued their search, thinking no one was stupid enough to steal a spider ship. Especially with one of them still aboard. “Oh, you saved us, Captain,” Trina hugged Captain Cirk, molding herself to his strong male body. True to his image, Cirk pried her fingers off his cheek. “Just doing my duty, ma'am,” he replied in a shy manner. “Why don't you see what happened to Chompy, while I set the controls for home?” With a petulant groan, she rose and went below. “What are all these nets doing in here?” she wondered, carefully walking between the web lined walls of the corridor. A sudden shift, as Captain Cirk changed directions, threw her into one of the webs. The ensign was stuck, one strand covering her open mouth and gagging her. The more she struggled, the more tangled she became in the sticky strands. *** In her cabin, Griskee sat a nervous Chompy down on the edge of her bed and brought him a glass of Roach Wine to calm him down. Being too stupid to be scared, he was weak with embarrassment. “You feeling better, Honey?” Griskee asked tenderly, he was a fine figure of a human, she thought, smiling at him. He didn't even seem scared of her anymore, like most humans were. “Here, see what you think of this?” She put some poetry in his hands. Not knowing what else to do, Chompy started reading. He really seemed to enjoy it. All he had read on his world were Computer Manuals and, next to them, this was refreshing. His spelling and vocabulary were also as poor as hers. “I like it, the way you keep repeating the word 'Grooked,'” Chompy told her, “what does it mean anyway?” “I dunno,” she seemed to shrink into herself with the admission, expecting another rejection. “I just made it up,” Griskee confessed. “You mean you can make up words -- all by yourself? Gosh?” Chompy asked in enthusiastic admiration, “you must be a genius to do that. I have a bad enough time remembering real ones. Gosh. All by yourself?” She had gained a fan. Griskee blushed green with his approval, running her hands over her bulbous body, preening in his adoration. She had never felt that way before. Her parents ridiculed her work. “You look pretty when you turn green,” Chompy told her, making her even greener with pleased embarrassment. “You don't happen to have any corn chips lying around, do you?” Chompy was getting hungry again. “You wait here, I'll ask Mama.” Griskee ran out into the corridor to find her mama, passing Trina without a glance. She was used to having prey wonder into the ship. That was why they always left the airlock open when landed; it saved on meat bills. This must be my day, Griskee thought, in wonder. Sitting at the controls was her hero, Captain Cirk himself. Hearing noises, Cirk looked behind him, and saw a huge spider. He stood, and reached for his phaser, dropping it to the deck in his haste and fear. He could only stand there shuddering, as Griskee ran up to him and kissed his cheek. The last thing the Captain saw were her huge mandibles encircling his head -- before he passed out. Figuring she had better hide the Captain before her parents saw him, after all Cirk was their sworn enemy, Griskee spun a web over her hero and carried him to her cabin. She pushed the "Return to Last Landing" button on her way out. The girl even found a couple of packages of corn chips in the galley and brought them, and his boss, back to Chompy. On the way back, she noticed the still struggling Trina Twiliger. Having four arms, she brought the woman back with her. Griskee thought maybe Chompy would like a bite. “Look what I found up front,” she chirped happily to her new friend, throwing her burdens on the bed. All except the corn chips, which she handed to the still reading Chompy. “What should I do with them?” she asked. Chompy, not being very enthused with either of his human companions, made some suggestions. The spider ship returned to the spaceport, the one near the Nexus 12 shopping center. Griskee had solved the problem of Captain Cirk, so the conference was called off, the family taking a long vacation before returning home. And best of all, the spider girl had a boy friend that appreciated her poetry. Not only that, but she had a nice web pillow containing her hero, Captain Cirk, to lay her pretty head on at night. As for Trina Twiliger, she got a good job as an Airport Security Guard and, in time, even made captain herself. Charlie Tweet
