Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story though I had these powers now, I was in no way ready to take over the slaves. Unfortunately, there was not a whole lot I could do about the hand that heaven had dealt me, and it was coming to pass, slowly but surely. First, a group of about ten people showed up at the foot of my garden one day, just out of the blue, I was pulling weeds, and then there they were. There were five husband and wife couples. The women immediately took over the garden work, and the men began asking me questions, and calling me The Angel of Light. I was amazed at how they were revering me, as if I were some sort of god. I explained to them that I was mortal, same as they were, and they continued to insist that I was the leader, the Angel of Light. Finally, I just let it go. If that was what they wanted to beleive, so be it, then myself and the men began formulating plans. We had decided that maybe it would be best to have our homes underground. We had just barely begun tunneling in when I had another strange dream. In my dream, the ones who had chosen me showed me a large mountain and then took the center of the mountain out all the way to ground level, making it look like an ancient arena. It was now circular on all sides with high walls and an open center. In my vision, there were doors on all the walls and steps that led to the doors that were high. On the far side there was a rushing waterfall shooting over the high wall, and down to form a large river which fed a small lake. All this was inside the parthenon. There was also a garden of vegetables and one of flowers, as well as pens for different sorts of animals. It reminded me of the adobe dwellins the aceint mayan and aztec cultures had. It was a gorgeous place, somewhat like what I would picture Eden to look like. There were also fruit trees, and a large grassy stretch of ground. The doors in the sides of the walls, I knew without seeing led to different homes, and one of those doors belonged to me. I knew which one, and also knew that it was the largest of all the dwellings, for it was here that the children would also stay. There would also be personal servants to tend to my needs and the childrens needs. I was shocked at the simple, yet sophisticated way everything was layed out. Inside the homes there was electricity as well, and with my special powers I could put a force feild of sorts around the top of the mountain, so that it looked like a mountain from the outside. This was one of my powers that I did not realize I had, the power to cover and protect things that were mine. The forcefield would be invisible to us, letting in the sunshine, but it would be a very real tangible block to our enemies. They would not even be able to tell that it was not a real mountain top. The only thing that I would have to take the field down for was the rain, and then I would only have to take down parts of it, just enough to let the rain in. In my dream, I also realized that they had already cut the mountain out for me, and that it was just a matter of finding it. We all set out the next day, traveling to the place in my dream. It was not long before we found the mountain. I transported us, with my special powers, into the core of the mountain, and found that the outside was already just as I had seen it in my mind, it was just the homes that must be fixed according to the plans of the gods. I explained to the men how it had been in my dreams, and they began to work on it as thus. First, the made six homes on the first level. This only took up a little of the first level, even though my home was enormous by the standards of theirs. My home had sixteen rooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and six bathrooms. That wasn't even including my suite of rooms, which consisted of one masive bedroom, one small sitting area, and one large bathroom. My room was also on the second story of the home, affordin me with the first balcony, and a set of stairs all to myself. The tubs were made by one of the men, who worked in pottery and ceramics. To get electricity, one of the men had traveled to the city and come back with enough scrap metal and wires to set up a solar panel on the outside of the mountain, which he said should be large enough to feed all the homes that could ever be built inside the mountain with electricity. He then hooked up all our homes with this electricity. He had been an electricion before the war, and now his skills were very useful in getting the place up and rolling. He used scrap materials, and between himself and the pottery maker, and a cabinet maker, the interiors of our homes were set up appropriate to be lived in. My own suite of rooms were my home during those first monthes, because the remaining parts of my home were so large that there was no point in even opening them, although they were furnished and ready for the children that I knew would be coming. Now, everything was done according to plan, and everything was running as it had been fortold, and I knew that now was the time that my part came into play. I was extremely nervous about the rescue of the slaves from the slave trains that came through this region. It was actually very rustic the way they transported slaves (as well as everything else) in this post war time. It was more like the pioneers and settlers of old had traveled. The soldiers traveled in horse drawn carriages and the slaves walked. If they could not walk any longer, then they were killed, and left to rot on the side of the road. It seamed as if race and class were no longer of any implortance. The slaves were from all walks of life, as were the soldiers. The new class structure was based solely on whether or not you were a soldier. On that first night, I transported myself to where the wagon train was. I was wearing a white animal skin skirt with a animal skit top that matched it. The outfit was rather like the indian attire from long ago. It was cool and comfortable, though, and I could see why the indians had worn this type of clothing. I quickly put the men to sleep that were driving and guarding the slave train, then wrapped my force field around the slaves. I think the were as scared as I was. I then quickly made them invisible, and transported them, forcefield and all, back to the center of our secret dwelling. I then woke the guards. They saw me immediately, and thinking that I would be a prime candidate for one of their slaves, came after me. I quickly turned invisible, climbed a tree, and then watched with delight as they were all stupified that I had just dissapeared, but that was nothing to the anger and humiliation they felt when they realized that their slaves were gone as well. They were angry, and actually tried to chase me. I just watched them run around in circles for a while, before suddenly deciding amonst themselves that I must be a witch. This frightened them, and they took off hurriedly. I returned to our secret home then. The slaves were still in the forcefield when I arrived back. This was as I had wanted though, so that I could explain to them what was going on. Much to my surprise, they already knew from their own dreams, who I was and that I had come to rescue them and set them free. And I did just that. There were ten men, five women, and six children in that first lot to be rescued. I moved them all into my home immediately, until one could be made for each of them. I came to find out that none of them were family and that apparently the soldiers would not take whole families of slaves at the same time, for fear they would try to escape. Some of the slaves I had rescued were married with children, and some were single. Some of the children had parents, and some of the children were orphans. All of the children, however, did not have parents here, so they were moved in with me on a permanent basis, at least until I could rescue their parents as well. Three of the young women were also attached to men that had not been rescued yet, and they decided they wanted to stay on and take care of the children and my home, until such a time as I could bring their husbands back to them. This is the way my community went for a while. I continued to leave quite frequently and bring back various slaves. I found no need to keep them in the forcefeild until I could talk to them, they already knew why they were here, and there were also others awaiting them that could explain just as well. More times than not, family members met up and had tearful reunions and began their life again as part of the small community I called my own. Occasionally, it would come to my attention that the soldiers were looking for us, and for me in particular. I had come by the name of "The White Witch" in the outer world, while in my world, I was known as the "Angel of Light". It was strange to be hated by some and adored by others, but so was my lot. I continued doing as I had, and as the soldiers continued to try to find me, and to try to stop me from taking the slaves, it became imperative to find some way to scare them away. I came up with one thing after another, but when one of my ideas went wrong, and several soldiers died, it finally worked to keep them off my trail. The soldiers began trying to offer me sacrifices of several slaves when they would pass my territory. This was not sufficient for me and I continued to put them to sleep and then take all the slaves. It made them very angry, but my system worked very well. I always made sure the soldiers caught a glimpse of me each time that I stole their slaves. I now had a flourishing community in the hollow mountain that had come to be called "Haven". The daily progression of that community was not so much my concern, the people took care of the growing of the crops (although I made them grow exceptionally fast with my growing gift), and the care of the animals. We had chickens, cattle, horses, dogs, pigs, goats, and geese. We used the animals for work in the feilds and for food. Our animals also grew very fast. On top of that, some of the men of Haven enjoyed going out and hunting for deer and wild boar. Most of our clothing came from the deer that were hunted and killed, and a few of the women knew how to work with deer skin exceptionally well. We looked like a tribe of indians from the days before America had been settled. Each person had their own personal chores to do. The children helped in the garden and also helped with the housework, the men worked in the feilds, as well as doing building, working with the animals, and hunting. It was set up nicely, and worked extremely well. I was very close with the children of Haven, especially since most of them had been part of my home when they first arrived at Haven. Each night all the inhabitants of Haven would have a large bonfire out in the grassy area, and we would all meet up for a while if we felt like it. During those times each night, I began telling the children stories that I knew from before the war. Sometimes the stories were history stories that I had taught my classes when I was a teacher, sometimes the stories were more fairytales. I soon became aware that there were no books or paper in Haven, so the children didn't know how to read or write. That became a big concern to me, and an even bigger concern when I realized that a lot of the adults had either forgotten a lot of the written word, or had never known in the first place. I decided that we should have a school. The men immediately began building it. It was set a good distance from the homes, infact it was on the other side of Haven, accross the feilds and the lake. The men also built a small bridge to get across the creek, this had not been necessary before, for there had been nothing over there that we had needed to get to before. After the school was set up, we also set up some other small shops, one for clothing, one for furniture, one for artwork and ceramic figurines, and a couple for other small things. The people in Haven also began bartering for the things they wanted, it was no longer a place where everything was free, it was becoming a place where services and goods were exchanged as money. Still, no one went without, and no one got really rich, it just continued running the same way it always had. It was along about this time that things began changing in my own life. It happened suddenly on one of my slave runs. I had just happened up on one of the caravans of slaves, and put the guards to sleep, when I suddenly recognized one of them. I sent the slaves back to Haven and approached the sleeping guard. It was a freind of my from college, some blue million years ago. I had had a crush on him back then, but had been too shy to tell him, and there he was working with the pigs known as soldiers. I tapped him lightly and whispered "awaken", as I had many times before, but this time I spoke only to him, and he came awake with a shudder. It startled him to have me suddenly in his face, so he jerked up and brought the gun that he carried around towards me. I quickly made myself invisible and escaped off the wagon. Now, he tried to wake his friends in the wagon with him, and upon finding that he couldn't, he suddenly began trying to find me once again. I, still invisible, snuck up behind him, and proceded to steal his gun from his hands. Then I materialized again, in front of him. "Do you not remember me Brennan?" I asked, "I am Kristin. From college." I said quickly. "I do remember you now. Are you also the White Whitch?" he asked. "I am." I returned. He had been such a good friend back then, and I wondered if I could trust him. "I will give you a choice, but I will only offer it once, so decide what you wish to do. I offer you the chance to come with me to my home. If you do, you can never leave that place. If you do not, you will go without any recollection of me." I told him, knowing somehow that I could erase his memory of me, even though I did not know how. "I don't know. I would like to come with you, out of curiosity more than anything else, but also out of amazement. You are the White Witch, and yet I remember you, and yet you are more beautiful now than before." he said. "And I say you must decide. One way or the other, this is your only chance. Either way is going to hold risks and peril." I told him. "Then I choose to go with you. At least with you, I know that life shall never be dull." he said, and with that, we walked a distance from the slave train (now devoid of slaves and one soldier), and I rendered him invisible. Then I woke the soldiers and transported the two of us back to Haven. When I showed up with a soldier, it was a rather disturbing thing to a lot of the slaves, I called a meating that night to which Brennan was not invited and I talked with them about how I knew him, and about the rules that he must obey. They agreed, however reluctantly, and I knew that I had probably made my first big mistake as a leader. Over the next several monthes, I continued to bring slaves back, and I realized, even as Brennan made a name for himself among the people, I began to understand why I had brought him here in the first place. The crush that I had in college for him was not even close to faded, and I was longing for the kind of love that some of the people around me had found. I wanted to be married to Brennan. It would not be the first wedding Haven had seen. We had seen many weddings, births and deaths by this time in our history. I set out to get him, and things did lead on. It was not long until he and I were courting. A lot of the people of Haven did not like this at all, but I was still the Angel of Light, and they owed me their allegiance if nothing else. They overlooked the fact that they did not like it, and a few monthes later it came as no surprise that we were married. Time continued to march on, and I had all that I wanted and then some. I continued to rescue and bring slaves to Haven, and since Brennan had begun to accompany me to retreive them, although I insisted he stay in the background and not let himself be seen. Soon, I became pregnant, and as time progressed, the people began to accept Brennan and myself as leaders once again. Our children, six of them in all, were born with my powers. We all lived happily ever after in Haven. As I got older, and really too old to continue to rescue slaves, my sons and daughters took over my job. Some were as good as I was, some were better, and some were no good at all. Eventually, my eldest daughter ran Haven, and the rest of my children branched out and started their own communities, adn all was well with the world, although the fight between the Angels of Light (as we were all now called) and the soldiers would continue for many centuries to come, it would eventually end, I knew, and then there would be peace everywhere.
