Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story sounded false to her but it was the truth. His face showed he didn't believe her either. “What kind of mission? Could you use help?” he wanted to know. “No,” she blurted, “I can handle this on my own and it doesn't matter what the mission is. You and your questions. I just would be more comfortable if I knew my house wasn't being ransacked while I was gone.” “How can you guarantee that I won't ransack it?” he had moved to quickly and quietly for her comfort and was right beside her, his body heat pulsing towards her. “I can't,” she confessed, her head spinning and having a hard time thinking straight. Why was she acting this way? She couldn't allow herself to feel like this for someone, the last thing she needed to do was get involved. “You trust me?” he questioned, his hand on her arm sending tingles across her flesh. Trying to stop herself from reacting so romantically, she yanked her arm away and spat, “Yes, I don't know why, but I do.” Pushing past him, ignoring the feel of his body against hers as she did so, she put some distance between them. “Uh huh,” he was watching her again, making her trip over her feet and nearly fall over. Cursing under her breath, she grabbed a change of clothes and fled to the bathroom where she sat on the floor, trying to slow her breath and calm her racing heart. He knew exactly what he was doing and why was she allowing him to do it. When she walked out, Kitty was sitting in her bed, talking to Mikey and looking a hundred percent more her age than she had the day before. Her heavy makeup had been cleaned off and her hair stood out at every end, but it was her eyes that held the biggest difference. There was laughter in them, making her whole face light up and she looked absolutely stunning. Echo almost smiled at the transition, it did make her feel better about her stupid brother. “I'm heading out, will you be staying?” she inquired and Mikey looked at her with something that looked like almost sadness. “Yes,” Kitty said decisively, smiling broadly at her. Echo returned the smile then collected her weapons. After giving her farewells, which was a strange experience as she had not done so since before her parents had died, she left to find the dwarf.
