left to join them.  Then, when I was seventeen," she stopped and 
swallowed, trying to erase the gory images that had popped up in her 
mind, "I walked in the house and I knew something was wrong, I just 
knew it.  They'd both been murdered, my father shot and my mother 
stabbed.  I...I knew it was something to do with the police but I 
couldn't do anything about it then, at least not openly, or I'd end up 
like my parents.  So, now I try to do my best to stop the murderers 
that are allowed to go unchecked.  I'm not real successful, but I try." 


"They killed your parents?  Wow, no wonder you're going after them like
no tomorrow," he rushed then hurriedly added, "You've got more guts 
than I do, that's for sure.  Kitty and I, we're all that's left of our 
family.  Our parents, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but they were part 
of The Hyenas.  They were both killed in a shoot out over some drugs or 
something, we were never quite sure.  We had three other brothers and 
sisters.  One older than me and two younger than me but older than 
Kitty.  Josh, he was my older brother, o.d.ed on crack, and my sisters 
were in a car crash while street racing.  I never got into the business 
but as you can tell, Kitty followed in their footsteps.  I don't want 
to lose her too, that's why I had to rescue her.  Had to get your help 
in rescuing her.  Thank you by the way." 

"It was no big deal," she looked away, blinking back tears.  It had been
a very big deal to walk into that nest of vile greed and child lust, 
then to see her brother.  It made her extremely uncomfortable and she 
wished that this all had not been dumped in her lap. 

His hand slid onto her shoulder and he responded, "It was a very big
deal, you and I both know it.  If there's anything I can do..."  She 
shook her head but didn't move his hand, it was comforting to know 
someone was there for her.  Yet she couldn't allow herself to take 
advantage of it, she'd taken care of herself for so long.  Not to 
mention, everytime she cared for someone, they were taken away.  At 
that moment, Kitty poked her head out of the bathroom and she leapt up 
to get her some clothes.  It seemed so strange to have guests but she 
was glad for the company.
