“It eats vegetables, and we have plenty in the backyard. Dad can help me
build the cage, I already have the design.”

“Steven says if the rabbit gets sick, we could go to the vet and have it
checked. Snow was a bit sick last week, but he's ok now.”

And finally, “I can get one from Steven's cousin, because she has five
rabbits now and she's giving three away. So can I please, please,
please, have a pet rabbit?”

After a horrendous repetition every single day for almost a month, Jack
succeeded in showing his determination and will power, and finally had
his first bunny rabbit.

After a serious effort of thought, the rabbit was named Hobbit and is
considered to be part of the family, hence Hobbit Ribbon. It was not as
cute as Snow. The rabbit was brownish grey and had the wild urges to
kick and scratch whenever Jack tried to hold and cuddle it. The boy was
obviously disappointed. The Ribbons were sure Jack would give up after
a week of the bunny's rejection of Jack's TLC.

Three weeks later, the Ribbons first discovered Jack's ability to tame
small mammals. The rabbit now recognized Jack's voice, knew its name,
responded when called and hopping to approach. Jack even planned on
giving Hobbit some kind of a leash and bring it for a walk in the
neighborhood.

One morning the cage was found empty and no rabbit was visible in the
vicinity. There's a hole in the cage, and another hole dug out of the
Ribbons backyard fence.

Father suspected some wild animals had come to claim a yummy dinner as
it was only natural. Jack was very brokenhearted; he swore he would
never want another pet rabbit for the rest of his life.

Upon returning from their grandparents that summer, Jack thought it
would be neat to have a parakeet or a canary, just like Nana did.
