bringing the heavy dog along.

“Hey, I found one with the key already inside.” Tommy yelled to the
others, which was a good thing since the first two had screwed up the
wires on the other one. It had looked so easy on television.

With Joey driving and Tommy down at the footpedals they were soon on the
way, a whining Spike struggling in Jackie's arms. Janet had to keep
an eye out for the right plane. There were many on the tarmac, more as
they approached the terminal.

“There it is guys, the red and black one over there. Get your masks on
just in case.” She told them, pointing.

They had gotten to the large craft before the air or ground crew.
Leaving their truck a little ways off, in a marked off area, they
hurried over and up the now motionless ramp. Janet knew how to open
the door and they found themselves in the empty cavernous aircraft.
They had no flashlights, Tommy was supposed to bring one but forgot.

Jackie had a few candles though, he never depended on Tommy. He handed
the now barking Spike back to his owner who held a hand over the dog's
mouth.

“Shut up, Spike.” Joey quieted his pet as Jackie lit the candles with
his Bic.

The kids stopped to get their fake guns, ordered through the mail. They
looked very realistic. After a little horseplay among the seats, Janet
got them quieted down and up to the upper level. They trooped to the
rear of the aircraft.

A little while later they could hear banging around downstairs.
Eventually a head with a crew hat appeared up the stairwell.

The engines started up and shook the plane. She knew Mr. Edwards, the
Captain was warming them up and preparing to taxi to the loading area
where passengers would soon be waiting. He had let her ride along
once, so she knew his procedures would take a little while.

“Get ready,” She told the others, petting Spike to keep him quiet.

When the craft started moving she got them going. They rushed to the
stairwell to the lower deck. Tommy stuck his head down while Janet and
Jackie held his legs.

“It's empty.” He told them. The only thing Janet wasn't sure of was
whether there would be any stewardesses aboard yet. They hadn't been
the first time, just the Captain and Copilot, Mr. Jones.

“Now I can't talk,” Janet told them, “I have to stay in the back. He'd
recognize my voice.”

They grinned at each other, rushed down the carpeted stairs and into the
cockpit. Mr. Edwards and Mr. Jones were sitting in their seats up
front looking at gauges, getting ready to move the huge aircraft. Mr.
Edwards felt a gun at the back of his head and heard a serious childish
voice.

“Let's go. Take off or we'll shoot you.”

“This is a highjerk, stupid.” Another warned. The pilot tried to turn
his head.

“Don't look at us or we'll shoot Mr. Jones.”

“Yeah, you better take off, right now or we'll shoot.”

The Captain was torn between different emotions. On one hand they did
sound like kids, but probably kids with guns. On the other his orders
were to follow a hijacker's orders. Could he take a chance? He moved
over slightly in his seat to see a reflection in the darkened window.
He could see masks and a Tommygun. It was enough to decide him.

“Ok, you got it. I have to call the tower though, alright to hit the
switch?” Why take any chances. Their daddy's might be back there too,
and he had read about some kids killing others under different
circumstances.

“Go ahead, but watch it, you hear me?” Jackie replied.

“Tower, this is Amjet flight eighty. I need a runway right away.” He
sent his message, “I'm being hijacked.”

“Cut it out Edwards. You haven't even started loading yet.” Was the
reply.

“I'm serious, Harry. Get me out of here, I am being hijacked.”

“Really? That's a first. I'll be damned. You're on eight aren't you.
You might as well use it I guess. I'll get the word out.” Harry
replied. “Where you going, anyway?”

“Where we going, kid?” He asked them. “I gotta tell the tower.”

“Disneyland.” Janet blurted, forgetting her own warning.

“Janet. Is that you. What's going on? You better cut it out before
you get in too much trouble.”

“Just fly us to Disneyland, Mr. Edwards. We have the guns and we're
serious.”

The Captain informed the Tower that he was on the way to Disneyland with
a load of armed children.

“What the hell, you been on the Juice?” Harry asked jokingly, giving
them clearance.

They held onto whatever was handy as the plane took off and headed for
Florida.

“The Florida one ok, kids?” The Captain asked, feeling a little silly.

“Good.” Tommy told him. Mr. Jones sat there laughing.

“Why you doing this anyway? You must have a good reason.” Mr. Jones
asked.

“Our parents won't take us, and we can't walk.” Was the simple answer.

Spike started barking.

“You know, at least one of you has to stay here to guard us, and the dog
can't go in with you.”

“We have our guns, we can get in with them.” Tommy told him,
brandishing the Tommygun.

“Uh, Uh, won't work.” The Captain reminded them. “The guards have guns
too. A lot more than you have.”

“We'll take you with us. Spike can wait here.” Jackie told him. They
make any trouble and we'll shoot you.”

“I don't think my friend Janet will let you shoot me.” The Captain told
him. “And they'll arrest the dog too. What's his name?”

“Spike.” Joey told him proudly, petting Spike.

“You shouldn't have told him any names, Joey.” Pete was angry at the
lapse. “Now we have to shoot them.”

“With our fake guns? You got any guns on here?” He asked Mr. Jones.

“No, they don't let us have any.” Mr. Jones told them. “You better get
this thing back to pick up the passengers, Captain. I'll get their
guns.”

“Better give up kids. You're in enough trouble now.” Mr. Edwards told
them, taking off the brakes and trundling back toward the terminal. He
had never taken off, just revved the engines a bit. They hadn't known
the difference.

Five sets of parents got early morning phone calls to come get their
kids. The plane took off on time, nowhere near Disneyland.
