Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story “Yeah, maybe it's the spirit of Agnes Wakefield comin' back to get us, lieutenant.” Both men grinned. Driving back to town on a lonely stretch of road the lieutenant saw a beautiful, dark-haired woman hitchhiking. Stopping, he offered her a lift. And, in a fatherly manner, warned her about the dangers of hitchhiking -- especially he said for such a pretty young lady. “Oh, I'm not worried,” she replied. “I can take care of myself.” The lieutenant smiled. “I'm Lieutenant Anderson,” he said. “Are you going far?” “No. Actually I've just got back.” Glancing down he saw the initials A.W. on her backpack. Noticing his look she gave him a knowing smile. “My name's Agnes.” Tweet
