Jenna hurries to get to a meeting, but ends up in a ditch because of a deer. This story is a slightly different style I'm trying - all comments and edits are welcome. | |||

Stopping to check her progress, Jenna found she was almost half way to the road. “I'm gonna make it Mr. Deer.” Again she slowly pulled herself up the hill. At the edge of the shoulder, Jenna saw the huge animal a few feet away. “What now Mr. Deer? If I sit on the shoulder I'll probably be hit.” The moonlight was slowly fading as the sun peeked from the eastern horizon. An owl's ‘hoot' echoed through the trees as the mighty bird circled then disappeared into the cover of an old maple tree. As if the owl had signaled morning's arrival, first one ‘tweet' then a dozen ‘tweets' sang their morning song. Jenna closed her eyes and remembered the early mornings sitting on the porch with her grandpa while her grandma cooked bacon, eggs, and biscuits. “Where did those days go, grandpa? Why does time fly by so fast?” Jenna heard a rattle in the distance and quickly opened her eyes. The deer moved to the middle of the road as an old black truck slowly made its way closer then stopped. “HELP!” “What the ...” as an old man got out of the truck, the deer slowly walked within a few inches of Jenna then disappeared down the hill. “What happened Miss? Are you ok?” “I hurt my leg.” She pointed to her car, “I swerved to miss that deer and rolled down the hill.” “Let me see,” he carefully examined her leg. “It's broke.” Taking a piece of wood and rope from the truck, he carefully splinted Jenna's leg then helped her into his rusty vehicle. “My car...” “It's not goin' anywhere. I'll pull it out later with my tractor.” He rubbed his chin, “You said there was a deer?” “It stayed with me all night.” Jenna frowned, “You saw it on the road - you stopped for it.” “I stopped cause the truck quit. I don't know what got into the old thing...” Tweet
